2017 Schedules

Postby nick511 » Wed, 19 Oct 2016, 05:43

Seems as if its about time we started a 2017 schedules as everyone has suggested.

Many games are confirmed Cooks vs Mexico & Brazil plus the usual North vs South series and Lions tour

Others are also rumored Fiji vs Scotland and Australia vs Japan

Wales also playing Tonga likely in Auckland and Samoa in Apia

It will be interesting to see what kind of squad Wales will take. It will be at the same time as the Lions' tour so at best there will be a few first XV players missing. When Wales toured Japan in 2013 it was very much an "Emerging Wales" side; they had some 15 players in the Lions squad that year but they also left behind the rest of the regular playing squad and many of the players who earned caps on that tour weren't capped before or since. That said, I can't see Wales having as many Lions this year and there is a big difference between Japan in 2013 and Fiji in 2016 (or indeed, Japan in 2013 and Japan in 2016).

Americas Rugby Championship
February 4th:
Brazil vs Chile @ Brazil
Canada vs Argentina XV @ Westhills Stadium, Langford, BC
USA vs Uruguay @ Toyota Field, San Antonio, Texas

February 11th:
Argentina XV vs Uruguay @ Argentina
Canada vs Chile @ Westhills Stadium, Langford, BC
USA vs Brazil @ Dell Diamond, Round Rock(Austin), Texas

February 18th:
Canada vs USA @ Swangard Stadium, Burnaby, BC
Chile vs Argentina XV @ Chile
Uruguay vs Brazil @ Uruguay

February 25th:
Argentina XV vs Brazil @ Argentina
Chile vs USA @ Chile
Uruguay vs Canada @ Estadio Charrúa, Montevideo

March 4th:
Argentina XV vs USA @ Argentina
Brazil vs Canada @ Brazil
Uruguay vs Chile @ Uruguay

Cook Islands Americas Tour:
June 17th @ Mexico probably in Mexico City
June 24th @ Brazil in São Paulo

Australia vs Japan is listed as May 28th @ Brisbane though the only source I've seen is Wikipedia so I agree it should just be treated as a rumor until something concrete comes out.

Canada and USA are also supposed to play their two RWC qualifier games sometime next summer. Wikipedia says they'll be played in June or July. The cynic in me says they'll just have the Americas 1 qualifier in June and leave it at that for us. Though I'm personally hoping those are played in July and we get a combo close to Baa-baas, Romania and a higher quality T3 country, Germany being my personal preference. Five weeks of International summer rugby in North America would be way better for the sport here.

I read on ARN that the Americas 2 playoff between the loser of USA/Canada and Urugu.....I mean winner of South America A Championship, is slated for next October.

ARN also mentioned the Nations Cup is to be held in Romania and Uruguay is trying to send their 2nd side, Uruguay XV, to compete in it. I know the Romanian posters have said that Romania wants nothing to do with the Nations Cup anymore but maybe they could go on tour and still field a Romania XV?

Georgia has a proposed schedule of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina for next June. Though if Brazil is really playing in the Nations Cup then I doubt they'll also play Georgia.

Uruguay is also negotiating to have England stop off there before they play their test series against Argentina. It would be a huge win for Uruguay if they can get England and Georgia at home no matter the results on the field.

I have doubts that Fiji vs Scotland will happen. Fiji is already supposed to play Tonga and Samoa in RWCQs and face Australia in Australia next June. Unless Scotland sticks around the South Pacific for an extra week after the June tests and plays a domestic Fiji.

The South American Championship A is usually in May.

Though if Brazil is really playing in the Nations Cup then I doubt they'll also play Georgia.

Yes, it is stranger. I doubt CBRu will reject a home match to play in Europe in June. Maybe they meant the Cup of Nations in november.

I was saying that the winner of South America A will face the loser of Canada/USA next October. At least according to ARN. Which means the SACA can still take place in May.

Oh, right, sorry.

I prefered to use the ARC for this. With Paraguy/Colombia/Mexico facing a repechage against the third (excluding Argentina) of the ARC.

But I believe Sudamérica Rugby doesn't want it, as the RWC Qualy gives importance to the SAC.

Harry Dumitras mentioned that in June Romania will play abroad in Japan and Canada, this is for sure and one more match with an unknown opponent at this time.

Now is only fair to play Canada abroad despite playing them every year for quite some time. So no Nations Cup in Bucharest , at least not for Oaks.

Also he said that if the results will be good Romania might host a T1 nation in November 2017.

Yeah, I looks like there won't be the competition. I now belive that CBRu meant the November Cup of Nations.

Happy to see the Fiji game confirmed as I thought it could easily slip away for a higher profile opponent. These fixtures will struggle to get crowds in Australia unless they do a great job marketing them to family's. The ARU badly need the money.

It will be interesting to see who accepts the invitation. Playing there or in Zimbabwe is pretty tough even if your team is supposedly better than local nations. But I understand Romania and USA have better plans for next year.

No hint of the All Blacks playing a tier 2 country next year they are playing France, Scotland and Wales next November.

But there is room for the '4th' international early in November if they choose too. But it seems unlikely given the 3rd Bledisloe is a week later and players from other countries are unlikely to be released, if I had my way I'd drop that useless 3rd Bledisloe game in favor of a game against a tier two nation, but sadly its nailed down for a few more years. Keep an eye on 2018 though, that's the most likely year for a tier 2 game.

Request to admin, is there a possibility of having a section which has all the relevant rugby related dates we can access, like a calendar but with information on each respective date like internationals, tournaments, meetings etc? I know this may require some admin but guys like myself and I am sure a few others, I won't name names here, if given the permission to edit it would be happy to.

I was reading Edmonton Rugby Union meeting minutes and in the latest one it mentions Georgia is playing Canada on June 10th and Romania is scheduled for June 17th. Also something about Rugby Canada wanting unions to bid on hosting rights or something like that.

And Italy? Are they going to visit North America again? They have just one match, against Australia. The other two matches can't be against Pacific Islands, because Fiji, Samoa and Tonga will be playing the Tri Nations.

I guess Georgia will visit Uruguay on June 17th? There was that rumour about a match against Brazil too.

And which are the dates for the two USA vs Canada RWC Qualy matches? Probably June 24th and July 1st?

Well, I must say I would love to see Italy visitiing Georgia on June 10th and than Russia on the 17th.

The PIs played the tri nations this year yet they still managed to host Georgia. All three of them. So, it's not impossible that two of them will host Italy as well next year.
