He is injured and for this campaign we have mainly been going with a domestic selection. Wouldn't be my choice , but the truth is that so far it is has worked. Quite a few new caps have been awarded and quite a strong core of domestic players have started winning games again for Portugal. I'm still a believer that if/when we go back up to compete successfully we may have to call on some wider experience.

It will be interesting to see if Portugal draws on its overseas players for a promotion/relegation playoff. On the one hand it would make sense for such an important game, on the other hand what message would it send to the local players who have got the team into that position?

100% agreed. I don't believe we can compete at a higher level without them though. Next season Bardy and Marques will be playing at Montpellier, I think we will need this kind of experience. Bettencourt and Lima are getting solid column inches in the press. But you're right, to drop the players that took us here, that have had such a positive PR effect internally in the country because they're all local boys would be wrong. To be fair to the FPR there is no indication that they will.

Moldova limitations being shown up by the relegated team from the higher division. Moldovan muscle nowhere near enough to counter the style, speed and handling of the Portuguese. Already 5 tries for Os Lobos

EDIT and now a 6th as the #23 Afonso Rodrigues beats 4 defenders on a run in from halfway.

EDIT Try number 7 another case of ponderous defending taken good advantage of, this time from about 20m out. by replacement back rower I think.

BTW Another (G) Felston in the Moldova squad? Moldova pack just got shunted well backwards too.

And with both teams with 14 players, replacement Portugal front row finds himself on the wing and runs in from 25m out!

Final Score Portugal 59 - 0 Moldova.

9 tries to nil so without doubt a BP win!

OK there was a misspelling and the gamesheet shows the Moldova #10 was in fact Craig Felston. It's been some time since he played an international?

I wasn't able to watch this one, sounds like a bit of a mis match and I hope Moldova get something from it.

So now Portugal play Ukraine , and then am I right in thinking we still have to play Belgium to see if we go back up?

Most likely. It could still be Russia, if Germany beats them and Belgium pulls a surprise win over Spain. But this would be a big surprise.
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

I think our best hopes lay with Belgium. But lets make sure we get the job done in Kiev first.

I hope you can be promoted. First of all, I believe there are too many physical teams right now in REC and a team with good handling and skills like yours is needed. And apart from that, I prefer RWC berths being decided through direct games between Romania, Spain, Germany and Russia rather than having a fifth team without chances messing around. But it won't be easy, Belgium has proven to be a tough team to beat in Brussels. And, yeah there's that fraternal love towards Iberian brothers too :D

Belgium has shown a lot more this year than what Portugal showed on their last participations....
