Beat Japan and playoff, give Scotland a good run for their money, lose to Ireland by a margin of about 20.

What else than make it to quarters? We can beat Scotland, Japan and Repechage team :D

I think that the schedule will be set for Ireland and Japan. In my way to understand how WR prepares a RWC schedule, I could say that they will present a very complicated schedule for Scotland even pushing them to rest the first week and giving them Ireland as first opponent and then in just four days Japan. I'm for a Japan Vs Ireland opener on Friday.

I wouldn't rule out Japan v Tonga or Romania in the opening match. It's not an illogical choice to have Japan's first match be against the team considered the 'easiest' for the sake of generating buzz for the rest of the tournament. If you can even call Tonga or Romania 'easy'.

I think that draw is about as favourable as Japan could have wished for! Clearly the weakest two teams in the pots above them, especially considering Ireland's historic underperformance at World Cups.

England/France/Argentina could be another pool of death if France improve between now and then.

Weekest 2 teams, you mean Iraland and Scotland?
Sounds pretty false.
I dont think that scotland is weak team under current coach.
It will be hardest job to beat Scotland.

The "Current coach" will be long gone by then, but even so, yes, I don't think it's particularly controversial to suggest that

Ireland < NZ / England / Australia

Scotland < Wales / France / South Africa

Bearing particularly in mind that neither Scotland nor Ireland will have home advantage.

Pool A and Pool D are super interesting. One thing I like about the RWC now is the games are getting more competitive, there are very few "easy" games anymore. Japan could very easily beat both Scotland and Ireland, Georgia can definitely knock off Wales. Heck even the other two pools aren't bad, South African form has been terrible lately and there is no reason Italy can't pull off a surprise victory. Pool C with France, Argentina and England is also interesting, every single one of those teams can beat each other. Whioe the last WC had Japan vs SA as a big surprise, I think this WC will produce a few more than that. If things turn out the way I'm hoping, three of the six Six Nations sides don't make the QF.

New Zealand and South Africa in Pool B. England and France in Pool C. That's pretty boring.

Pool B is the easiest one, if we consider the current rankings. I supposed Romania E1, Usa AM1, Uruguay AM2, Namibia AF1, Fiji O1, Samoa O2, Tonga POW, Spain RW

So Pool C is the group of death.

However, I think that Scotland and Wales should be worried about Japan and Georgia.

Well, I think that Canada and Uruguay would have a very tight repechage.
Either would also have a tight world repechage versus Spain.

Canada?

Uruguay is 21 now, Canada 22. So I've put in Uruguay

I think all the pools may offer some surprise for quarterfinals, except pool B. I can't see Italy defeat again South Africa

Canada will be a different beast in the qualifiers so they can be even America 1. They tested a lot in the previous games.

I'm happy enough with that. Main thing was to avoid Argentina.

France could be the side to avoid in 2019.

Keep in mind a lot can change in 2 years. But I think it's a fair statement to say Japan got probably the most favourable draw they could have hoped for. They could have easily gotten South Africa and NZ which would have been almost impossible to progress from, but they've got probably a better chance to progress in 2019 than in 2015, and with 2 more years of Super Rugby experience they are going to be even more competitive. Sunwolves gradually got better over their NZ tour.

Romania should go to the repaechage! fuck Eu 1 spot. They'll have better chances against Italy/Namibia than against Japan/Tonga.

Our group will be interesting. I'm guessing we'll get Canada. Could've been better but could've been worse too, can't complain.

Honestly I'd rather be Americas 2. The sting of loosing to America is the only motivator to go in as America 1.

Agree 100%. But i still want to see them win in Hamilton. Realistically we'll suck in either pool, doesn't matter a ton.

Question is what would the US prefer? On paper pool D would be the more favourable draw for the US.

I'd prefer the Eagles to beat Canada and take Americas 1. Getting that Americas 1 spot now would allow the Eagles to have a longer view in their development and selections. Losing to Canada would not only sting and be a setback, but it would mean everything would need to have a shorter term focus leading up to the series with the South American champ.

Anyway, still think it's absurd that pools are announced before qualifiers are over or locked in, i.e. after everything is settled except Repechage. Do the local organizers really need to know who the teams are in each city over 2 years in advance?

Agree, some will think that few teams can manipulate their results to get in the right pool.
Realistically i think nobody will risk that but it is an option.

Ireland were lucky also last time we met on Wembley!

You lost by 34 points that isn't luck.
