Agree with all coments! And more:
The new RE site is more difficult to understand than before, you can not find the necessary informations.
Where can you find the GPS rules?

For the pool team distribution it was suposed to follow the following scheme, according to last year classification as follows:

(rank 2016)
1 - 2 - 3
6 - 5 - 4
7 - 8 - 9
12 - 11 - 10

but they did not, as final 2016 rank was: GB 1 (Egland), Russia, GB 2 (Wlaes), France, Spain, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Poland and promoted team (Ireland). How will that work for next week in Lodz?

Rank 2015
England 3rd
Wales 7th

For 2016, according to GB 1 and 2 accepted to replace England and Wales respectively
and to rank 2016 below
First Tournament 2016 (Moscow) was:
GB 1 in group C and GB 2 in group A

Later GB 1 was designed as GB Royals and GB 2 as GB Lions

As you may confirm, England was 3rd rank in 2015 GPS
In 1st leg of 2016, England should be in group C.
In first leg of 2016 (Moscow) GB Royals was in group C

Wales was 7th rank in 2015 GPS, they should be in group A of 1st leg of 2016
In first leg of 2016 GB Lions was in group A
http://old.rugbyeurope.tv/group-290.htm

So GB Royals is England, GB Lions is Wales

And in final 2016 rank GB Royals was 1st and GB Lions was 3rd
So England was 1st should be in Group A in Moscow 2017, and Wales was 3rd should be in Group C in Moscow 2017

that is true. but for some strange reason they were allowed to pick which team replaces which. The whole process was an absolute mess and unacceptable.

It's difficult to gauge how good the other European teams are when England, Wales and France keep sending sub-strength teams.

Anybody trying to rank sevens national teams will have problems, as England, Wales and France will regularly score badly in this tourmament (for example, England finishing 9th in Europe when they are in the Top 4 or 5 globally), so after every Grand Prix Series, the top European teams will be ranked worse than their actual level. Russia beating England in the World Series would be a shock, but it is almost an expected result in the Grand Prix Series...

It depends on the tournament. Wales seems to have changed a lot from Moscow to Lodz. But it's totally unfair to the rest of the teams, since qualifying processes for both Hong Kong and San Francisco get tainted.

Wales has only changed two players compared to Moscow. England will play full strength in Exeter (and maybe France). The french 7s team is being restructured but expect their top players to come back for Clermont.

The problem, I think, is the massive difference between England at full strength, and England in these first 2 tournaments.

For example, England just lost 24-7 to Russia (+17 for Russia). In their last World Series match with Russia (in December), England beat Russia 38-7 (+31 for England). So, a swing of 48 points from England to Russia.

As mentioned earlier, as the Grand Prix Series is a qualifier for the World Series (through the HK Sevens) and the Rugby World Cup Sevens, having substandard teams or teams like England who oscillate from a mediocre squad to a full squad isn't fair on the other competing teams. Yes, teams usually chop and change squad members throughout a series, but not as drastically as England are doing here.

I meant "top core teams" - England 1, Wales 10, France 11.

Russia and Spain are on the border of core/non-core (14th and 19th)

The only reason Russia and Spain are in the final is that England, Wales and France didn't send their best teams.

Yep, bad situation for Spain, since any tie with Russia or Ireland in the general standings will favor those who won a tournament. Congrats anyway

I have not been able to fall in love with 7s too, as far as now.
And also the big mass of rugby fans, considering the sparse spectators in Lodz stadium

Clermont-Ferrand round of the Grand Prix 7s started today.

Russia 41-0 Poland
France 43-0 England
Spain 26-7 Portugal
Georgia 14-12 Germany
Ireland 28-5 Belgium
Wales 12-7 Italy

Not sure what the point is of sending such a weak English team to these competitions.
