I think these are great draws for the Russians. London Irish, Newport Dragons and possibly Edinburgh are all potentially beatable in Russia.

Unfortunately not all games will be in Krasnoyarsk. Only 4 of the 6 guest teams will play in Siberia in October. Another 2 games will be in December somewhere in the south of Russia.

Weren't they all played outside of Krasnoyarsk this year for Enisei? Is this an improvement then?

For 2 years of participation of Enisei and Krasny Yar in Continental Shield and Challenge Cup, only 1 game was held in Krasnoyarsk. Enisei - Connacht in November 2015 because of the World Cup. April and October are a great time for rugby in Krasnoyarsk.

Round 1 games will take place in Krasnoyarsk, but for Round 2 both Russian teams will be forced to move to Moscow.

The Yenisei plays on Slava and the Krasniy Yar on Fili.
I hope one of the matches in Moscow on October 21 will be posponed for the day ahead.

It will be interesting to compare the results of the games of Yar and Temishoara, I think they will be the same.

The Dragons will play Enisey in Moscow. Not playing their home games in Krasnoyarsk doesn't seem to have harmed their winning prospects; last year they beat Worcester in Moscow and the Dragons in Krasnodar, and the year before beat Brive and Newcastle in Sochi (so the European sides can't use the excuse of the Siberian winter for losing). The crowd was much better in Krasnoyarsk (2,500 compared to 300-600 elsewhere) though so it's much better to have the games there if at all possible.

Enisey should be very pleased with that pool - two teams they have beaten before and one that doesn't take the competition very seriously.

As a side note, EPRC are suggesting Enisei and Krasny Yar will play each other for a place in the Shield final, suggesting it won't be possible to have 2 Russian teams again next year.

This is because the Enisei-STM stadium was closed for reconstruction.

And the main Central stadium of the city is also under reconstruction, there will be the opening ceremony of the Universiade 2019.

Well that was a disappointing start for Enisei STM, I really thought it would be closer than that. I can't see them beating Newcastle this year but hopefully they will beat Dragons

Well, even if they don't actually rethink the whole Enisei v Krasny Yar play-off idea, this result alone shows how ridiculous that decision is...

This review just resume the way PR understand rugby: SF is cold that they lose against Russians but Krasnyi Yar is not hot that they win against SF :).
