A week late but I can't let the Krasny Yar result over Stade France pass without comment. I'm surprised SF didn't ask for the game to be called off like they did in Timisoara because it was a wee bit cold.

Respectable scoreline for Enisei at home to the Dragons (who look quite a bit better this year, particularly in attack).

Peter Wright in radio commentary said that Krasny Yar's pre match warm-up looked like Scottish semi-pro club warm-up 10-15 years ago

I think our team should also play in winter in Georgia. If you can not play in Sochi then in Russia there is no place for games in February.

Thank you for the matches in February , idiots from Rugby Europe !

No, our teams must play home games not in Georgia, but somewhere in South America or Africa. We need new points on the world map, where our rugby teams have not played home games yet.

Challenge Cup situation; green means already qualified, red means already eliminated. Last day's kick-off times, on the right, are in CET; Gloucester match is on friday evening, al the other on saturday.
Do you know if the two russian matches from Tbilisi will be live streamed?

The Dragons are effectively out. To come second in their group they need to win with 4 tries and for Bordeaux not to get a bonus point. Even then they need almost every other game in the round to go a particular way to scrape through, including for Krasny Yar to draw against London Irish I think. It's million-to-one.

Notwithstanding Krasny Yar's glorious defeat of Stade Francais in the first round, the Russians have been a bit disappointing this year compared to Enisey's successes over the last two. Have the other teams finally started taking them seriously, or what has happened?

Krasny Yar's win against Stade, yes, made other teams not want to be Stade. Teams are taking our clubs more seriously and sending better teams out (edit: and have more video, we're still - enisei in particular, pretty predictable). R1&2 are the only true indicators as the rest are in the (far) off-season for us. Yar in Paris in and Enisei in Bordeaux and Newport were FAR far far better away performances than we've seen to-date. Enisei are going to field a B side in Tbilisi as REC is far more important and will go 0-6, but no shame. Yar will flick 2 fingers at Pervukhin and release only the centre stuck behind god knows how many Georgian backs. They have strong ties in Georgia. Could theoretically win a second, although unlikely. Even if they don't, this is far from a disappointing season - everyone is levelling off, no shocks, everyone is more exposed. Let's hope is helps against Francia del Sud!

I was wondering why so many absents from Krasny Yar in January's Turkish training camp compared to December's one.

Underwhelming attendance for the final at San Mamés. What a pity...

It doesn’t look that bad, any guess at the attendance yet?

It looks about the same size of crowd or even a little more than was at the Challenge Cup Final last year at Murrayfield. You just don’t get the biggest crowds for Challenge Cup finals; EPCR just need to decide whether it’s better to have a half empty big stadium for a final or a filled smaller stadium.

Yes, I think it is normal for a Challenge Cup final. I don't think it is a forecast for the Champions Cup final.

Challenge Cup final attendences since it is in the same stadium of the Champions Cup final:

2017 - Edinburgh: 24,494
2016 - Lyon: 28,556

Unlucky that no French team made it, but if the numbers are correct it was a huge success.
8000 more than in Edinburgh. 4000 more than in Lyon (where a French team was playing) => they will continue to have finals in minor nations.
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

The second highest Challenge Cup crowd ever, I read, second only to the 2010 final in Marseilles when Toulon were playing.

Second highest ever, only beaten by Toulon playing in Marseille (when the Cup final was awarded when the finalists were known, which is a better format for me).

I'd call it a massive success.

Trust me, people here isn't convinced. There is a lot of discussion on Twitter about how local polititians have lied regarding the impact of the event. Media have told everybody we were going to host 100,000 and that's far from truth. In fact 40% of the tickets were sold within Spain. Plus Santander and San Sebastián have hosted much more atmosphere than Bilbao due to stupid Bilbao hotel managers.

I don't think Spanish fans should beat themselves up at all Armchair. That's a very good crowd for the challenge cup. To be honest 40% sales within Spain sounds like a pretty good return, I'd be surprised if the previous finals have sold much more on public sale bar Lyon, France. The hotel situation and gouging is disappointing but I can't see it going back to Bilbao anytime soon regradless. Positive signs for future in other European nations. I'd like to see Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt considered for the future.
