I thought some of the mainstream media articles criticizing CBRu membership policy would shake some minds. I understand sponsors only care about big cities and as long as they keep growing it doesn't matter, but from a political POV...
What a pity.

Well, this is not about sponsors because they are not in club rugby (well, the travels are payed indirectly by sponsors... CBRu calculates how much they'll need and ask for the money with a project linked to the tax incentive law). This is about internal politics and strategy. The effect of letting half of the country outside the organization is that it is harder for those without membership to find public or private (via tax incentive law) support. It is not impossible, but it is harder, specially being those areas poorer or far from other major rugby centres (and we are talking about regions with many big cities, like Brasilia, Goiania, Recife, Fortaleza...all of them without 15-a-side rugby due to lack of players and/or funds). The always present tale of 2 Brazils...

Yes, I understand that, but at the same time, CBRu sponsors will wonder at some time why are they spending money on a Brazil national team unkown to half of the country. Rugby needs to exist in some way at least in those regions so that Tupis and Yaras have some resonance there. Even if their unions are unrecognised, some development competition should be put in place.

Yes, I agree. And here you are the paradox: those regions, that have no membership, have some clubs playing the Womens Brazilian Series!!! Melina, from Cuiabá, and Delta, from Teresina, are among the core teams of the circuit. Well, they are good enough and womens rugby can't let good sides outside the national competition. So they were allowed to play the Qualification tournament and got their spots as core teams. In other words, where they were needed (womens rugby), they were welcomed. This is nonsense.

No. They are asking for membership now and everybody thought that they would achieve membership by 2018, as they have everything required. So far, nothing.

Hi FR!

The Brazilian Rugby Union hasn't anounced the squad yet or their travel schedule. They'll probably do that on Monday.

There is a very funny joke going on in Brazil in all social media about the Maori All Blacks match. People are joking it should be at CERET (aka Arena Paulista de Rugby), the always crowded, grass-less and only public rugby field in São Paulo, that receives like half a dozen 15s matches every Saturday, from junior rugby to Super 16 matches.

This is CERET's photo

A funny video faking subtitles: https://www.facebook.com/rugbymilgrau/v ... 641545775/

Even the São Paulo Rugby Union is doind the joke https://www.instagram.com/p/BlsdduSHz_7 ... _copy_link

At CERET the Tupis would be invincible

Brazil beat Georgia XV 20-18. Honestly more surprised Victor didn’t post it here first. This is a big win for Brazil and shows the effects of a full time environment for the Tupis. If they can get the Liga Sudamericana off the ground then they can get regular playing time against higher competition.
