2017-18 Continental Shield
Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
To make things even funnier i don't know if Timisoara have the money to go in Europe this year. But let's wait and see, is getting more interesting every day. European Rugby organisations are starting to look like village rugby heaven.

Further words from VRAC, this time quoting his president:
"I don't want to be a pessimist, but I see it dark. We're waiting. We've asked for information about what kind of competition we would be playing and if we would have any kind of support from FER or Rugby Europe, but I fear we're not going to have answers until August or September. Playing in Europe changes everything, because it affects to budget allocations and pushes us to have a larger squad".
BS translator: VRAC wil only play Continental Shield if FER bankrolls it.

Good read about the HRK exclusion.

How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
Anyone noted that EPCR restyled their website?
Exposure of the Continental shield is now on par with the two main cup competitions.
Good stuff.
It seems the confidence is there that this competition's development is structural and worthy of sharing exposure with the champions cup and the challenge cup.

SORRY, but BLOODY RUBBISH this whole new site and this TAB
https://www.epcrugby.com/continental-sh ... ol-tables/
Batumi (GEO) finished second in their pool and reach play-offs
Just compare with this >> http://site.rugby.ge/ka-GE/0/ RIGHT COLUMN
It shows how un-professional EPCR is and how they care for Shield

Christ, that's an overreaction. It's pretty clear that they just haven't sorted out the sorting after changing their website. The good news is that the Continental Shield is now no-longer hidden away in the corner, but is a key part of their website, perhaps this indicates that they may be expanding it?

Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
Sorry FR, but I don't quite agree.
I am sure a lot of details and figures are not correct.
But hey, this website is the portal to these tournaments and an advertisement for the participating clubs.
In that respect it's is a marketing tool.
Over the years I have learnt that marketeers and salesmen seldom care for figures, details, or even the truth.
It's about exposure and 'selling' a product and that aspect is much better taken care of now.

Good find, thank you. Finally the Shield is purposed with almost the same dignity of the two other cups
They are on the same line and with the same largeness in the bar on the home page. Surely an improvement

No particular meaning but linking the Continental Shield page on facebook this tag appears: "Continental Shield. Weekends for 2018/19 season. Round 1: 12/13/14 October. Round 2: 19/20/21 October. Round 3: 7/8/9 December. Round 4: 14/15/16 December. Round 5:…"

Dear Silver Fox
For me -- a professional TAB-maker with 49 years of experience --
publishing apriori FALSE tab as a place-maker is a MORTAL SIN
They could have just copies the CORRECT one from OLD site
but they did NOT -- cause they did not care about
Batumis, Padovas, Timisoaras and other small fishes
NOR they care about RUGBY and TRUTH
Sorry, if I do NOT share in your OPTIMISM | JOY --
LIFE taught me OTHERWISE

Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
Apparently they didn't fill in the tries scored, which lead to the absent BP. Mail them, they will probably tell the part-time-student filling this in, to do it properly.
I also hate it, but this things happens, when people are involved who don't like numbers and don't care enough.

Canalina has bitter sweet experience in mailing them ...
sorry, on my genuine advice
The guy directly responsible for the Shield replied
that he did not KNOW what the GAME SHHET was
instead of attaching it to the answer
It seems EPCR has amassed the PROs from all around the Europe,
to administer the naivest game of all, RUGBY

Yes. Like last year. The surprising thing is that their main rivals accepted
Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
Timisoara Saracens confirmed to EPCR they'll join next year Challenge Cup. Not the best way to do it. Sad time for HRK, I imagine the players and supporters are gutted and it's undeserved tbh, I don't agree with EPCR decision.

I think we will see some important changes to Timisoara and a new management and coaching team quite soon.
Now I am curious who'll join Continental Shield from Romania.

Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
I cant stress enough that I think it's a real shame about HRK, and I think that EPCR needs to significantly ramp up involvement by clubs outside the six nations (from 2 to at least 4, ideally more in my opinion).
However, with all the controversy over the unprofessionalism of the SPain/Belgium game, player eligibility etc, I can see there point in setting in stone the principal of double-ownership.
Hopefully HRK can tweak this for next year, and go for it again, but it is a real shame.
We could have had a German team in the Challenge Cup, and Spain in the World Cup by now, but there we go. Ever so slowly, rugby opens to the world at a snails pace.

Re: 2017-18 Continental Shield
I hope a club from Bucharest will take the Timisoara spot. I've seen that one of them has hired Vlaicu and maybe they will be able to borrow some players from the other Bucharest clubs, like HRK did this year

Probably will be CSM Bucuresti, they have the funding to go in European competition. Stiinta Baia Mare never showed intention to participate. I am not sure about Steaua, they're a surprising club and they were better than CSM this year despite a lesser budget and less experienced team.

In what way?
Belenenses won the league with no final played with both Agro and Direito relegated to the bottom league.
Unlikely that Belenenses have the budget or the squad , so if the competition is invite (affordable) only maybe those two sides have a look at it. Agro have lost one player to the Southern Kings already but would still give a much better account of themselves than CDUL last year. Direito also could have a solid go. But who will be eligible etc etc
