2017-18 Rugby Europe Championship, Trophy, Conferences 1 & 2

Postby victorsra » Sun, 23 Jul 2017, 13:53

The fixtures of the 2017-18 Rugby Europe XVs competitions are already in their website: http://www.rugbyeurope.eu/all-rugby-europe-games

The kick off is on October 14th with Conference 1 and 2 matches

The Trophy starts on October 21st with Czechia vs Moldova.

Portugal will play Czechia on November 18th and the match will count for both, the Trophy and the RWC 2019 Qualy.

The Championship kicks off on February 10th.

Slovakia was indeed promoted to Conference 2 for the first time.

The Conferences are the last to finish and the last round is on May 12th.

There is nothing about the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs' dates and nothing about the Development Cup. No infos if Turkey and Greece will take part. I guess only Bulgaria and Montenegro are certain there.

A nice whole-resuming pdf http://www.rugbyeurope.eu/sites/default ... 1017_0.pdf

Devpmnt competition is again with just three teams: Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey.
So, no Belarus, no Greece, no Armenia, no Azerbaijan and no Monaco, all nations involved in at least one of the previous editions
And no Iceland, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Albania, Macedonia; they've still to debut in ENC/REC

With just 3 teams (not far from each other), it would be nice do see them playing home and away.

I've seen that in FIFA World Cup european qualifiers there are also Kosovo, Far Oer Gibraltar and Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan in REC would be interesting (Trophy? Conference 1?), but of course this move would also weaken asian rugby

Don't quote me on this but I think this game appeared somewhere else. I think I read it was only a training game-4 quarters-roll-off replacements etc etc. But I could be wrong :|

Report (in Danish) : http://www.rugby.dk/nyheder/landshold/9 ... ge-i-skane
"Denmark XV won Sunday's international match against Sweden 10-18. It is the first time since 2001 that Denmark beat Sweden in an official international match. Super nice result and good start on preparations for the autumn's two Rugby Europe international matches. The first task is against Luxembourg. The match will be played on Saturday, October 14 at. 16 in Odense and we hope for great support for the Danish boys."
So, it was a test-match.

Kazakhstan plays in Europe just in football, right? All other sports they are Asia I believe.

Thanks Getienne

and now Swedish reports :
http://www.exiles-rfc.org/newsItem.asp? ... temID=3000
http://www.rugby.se/Landslag/NyheterLan ... motdanmark

The Exiles article is rather scathing of the Swedish RU. Apparently up to 12 top players were missing from the Swedish squad. It says some because of club finals the same weekend involving Exiles players. Others because they refuse to play for Sweden due to the way they have been treated by Swedish RU admin.in the past. Also criticism of present Chairperson as under her leadership Sweden has lost the last 20 out of 21 test matches. The writer's worry is that if this all continues Sweden will find itself relegated to another level, the second possible relegation in 3 years. Please note this is my interpretation of the article.

Results summary 14/10/17
I predicted Norway to win-wrong! I predicted Hungary to win-wrong! The Swedish win was a big surprise to me. I thought they had everything going against them but not so on the day

Andorra have a new kit sponsor, and will 'show off' this in the game Vs Israel on Saturday.

Next saturday will be full of REC matches and many of them are 'derbies' (I don't know it this term is used also in your countries; in Italy "derby" means a duel between two sides of the same city or that share some affinities each other)

Kick-off times in CET
13 Estonia-Finland, the baltic derby
13 Ukraine-Sweden, the blue&yellow flags derby
14 Bosnia-Malta, a mediterranean (more or less) derby
14 Czech Rep.-Poland, the eastern neighbors derby
14 Norway-Denmark, the scandinavian derby
14 Serbia-Slovenia, the slavic derby
14 Croatia-Israel, the I can't find any affinity derby :)
14 Latvia-Lithuania, the baltic derby

Estonia v Finland "Cancelled (postponed) due to poor field conditions from the weather".
These are the banners of six of the other seven games (can't find the Bosnia v Malta one)

PS: this season the Development pool is not based on just one venue but everyone of the three teams has one match at home

PPS: we have to make kudos to Rugby Europe, they offer all the more important infos about every match: score, standing, a match sheet, a full video when available. No one of the other confederations is so exhaustive

If all goes to plan, and they can get finances sorted out, Belarus will compete in the development competition (also full membership of WR is suggested)
