Top 14 coverage in USA

Postby eal22 » Sun, 08 Oct 2017, 02:38

I must say I am incredibly disappointed that ESPN are no longer offering Top 14 rugby online in the USA. Does anyone know if they still hold the broadcast rights?

Even worse, ESPN are only showing two Champions Cup matches per weekend, yet they hold the rights to show every match.

They've held the rights to Mitre 10 Cup as well, which they're only showing for the first time this weekend.

Doesn't bode well if they are planning on having a team join the Pro14 next year if they are not even showing games this year. You would have thought they would have pushed the coverage, to try and build awareness of the teams ahead of a US team joining, if they actually do.

It is the French Top 14 ESPN have the rights to but are not using. PRO14 rights are held by BeIN sports and therugbychannel, neither of which offer the PRO14 much visibility. I can see NBC moving in on PRO14 rights if an American franchise comes to fruition.
