People in Romania don't like rugby. They have had lots of chances to see it over the years and just aren't getting into it.

Arcul de Triumf is curently recieving undersoil heating and is one of the 4 stadiums in Bucharest under renovation. It will have a capacity of 8.000. That's to the best of my knowledge.

Ok. Cluj can be the best option. But how many people are in the tennis? I guess there is people enough to have a better attendance. Or the cold was that bad?

You choose if it will have 8000 or 10000. I have no clue. There haven't been any newer articles on the subject.

Yeah, i heard there were 2° at cluj on match day. That wouldn't have stopped ME from making 450km to see the match. The germans starting 15 made me stay home. Ill go to the russia game.

Stop making ignorant statements.

About stadium, they pick this size because is an historical area and you are not allowed to build over a certain height.

It's true. T2 nations like Georgia, USA, Uruguay, Canada all get better crowds than you guys despite all of your "rugby heritage."

Madagascar and Malaysia probably beat us all and it's completely meaningless. Man, we even get great crowds in our club finals and it doesn't make our national competition any better. We all know Cluj always gives disappointing crowds, but this time Bucharest was no option.

Who cares? :? What we're talking about is pitiful, consistent sub-3000 crowds for an established Tier 2 "power" who have beaten T1s. We have seen Romanian rugby's ceiling, it ain't high.

I don't think you can take as a reference a game in a gigantic stadium in a city with little tradition against a third-string team in a cold day. Bucharest has shown very healthy crowds in the past, for example last November.

pure envy :)

Cluj got even 8000 vs Spain if I remember well but it wasn't as cold as this Saturday nor a tenis match with national icon Simona Halep in the stands nearby which overlaped with rugby match.

Now I am looking at the attendances in ARC:

Chile - Brazil - 1500
USA - Argentina XV - 6500

This is about last year:

http://www.thisisamericanrugby.com/2017 ... dance.html

In total, roughly 9,000 fans attended in total. 3000 showed up in San Antonio while 6,000 showed up in Austin. For those looking at the positions that is 9,000 more fans than were showing up to rugby at this time of year in America to years ago.

So stop making ignorant and false statements about the crowds in US/Canada.

I think we as fans should embody what rugby stands for, which is respect. I think making comment about a countries "rugby heritage" and "ceiling" is very disrespectful. These are the type of comments that will never make a cultured tier 1 fan look at us and go "open the doors for 6-7-8 relegation/promotion 6 nations". We can't be petty, we should keep a respectful demeanor and language for any new rugby fan that might join this forum as I am. When i first discovered this place i was appalled by some of the pettiness and political ******* going on here. Rugby needs to grow everywhere if this sport that we love is to ever go global. Even in places where the ceiling is low. Guys even if romanians don't care about rugby there are some romanian players that go out on the pitch and give the best night in and night out. They sacrifice their health for the sport they love and for us 1, 2 or 1 milion romanian fans. They should be respected for that, in my opinion.

There were nearly 9,000 spectators at the tennis matches in the sport hall next to the stadium.

that attendance beat well football ones even in Euro cups. Thing is, if is on TV people won't bother to show up, especially such cold like last week-end.

You're entitled to that opinion but this isn't a committee meeting, it's a public forum open for debate. Some very diverse opinions are tolerated here. Welcome btw.

You are right, the beauty of it's openness is that one can very easily gauge the level of the individual commenting. There are great people here who bring news, and then people who openly slander and base their opinions on no evidence.

Antim Brawl with Georgians is fun & on the end of the day i respect Lelos and They respect Oaks. You are something else 4N & reminds me of Beeman: pure hate on Romanian rugby & No respect. How the f... you are an admin with this attitude?

About the Cluj stadium: they choose this venue because it has heated pitch. They want to avoid any problems like they had in the past before Portugal or Spain games.

I guess Romanian sports public is disapointing in other sports too. I have searched and the current average attendance of local football's top division is 3,139. CFR Cluj has only 5,202, but it is the league's 3rd best.

By Brazilian experience (that had for many and many years until very recently disapointing football attendances too for what we expect), when somehow and somewhen you lose the habit of attending matches in stadiums, it is not quick to regain that public (our attendances improved a bit with the new 2014 WC stadiums and a couple of other modern arenas built in the same period, however tickets prices are now really high for the average citizen). But this doesn't mean the public don't care about it (they might watch it on TV).
