If the Germans don't get their shit together Portugal should have no problem.

If they are still in civil war mode next season it will be interesting to see how they fare in the Trophy.

The most sold newspaper in the country, well above any general news ones. PM reads it during breakfast, it's in bars so people can read it during their coffee time...

I think i am right in saying that not only would qualifying be huge for Spanish Rugby but with your first game being against the hosts. You'd be opening the RWC as traditionally the hosts kick everything off. That's big.

Opening game is massive. The thing is no-one is really going to be sure what Spain can do. Romania has had enough exposure in the World Cup and internationally in recent years that T1 nations kinda know how they are likely to play. Spain is going to be a big unknown, and a potentially trickier opponent. Based on this form I don't think they are going to be pushovers in the group.

Do you really think there are unknowns today? Anybody can find all Spanish games for the last four years on YouTube...

Shall I remember he helped the away team? :D

To be honest, I'd rather see Spain win with a BP in Belgium. I mean, I'm so scared that a win by one point is more than enough to me. But with a BP it would mean that even with a 20-20 draw in Krasnodar Spain would have still clinched Europe 1 spot. It's not possible to rewrite history, but it would be a personal relief.

Let's be honest, arrogance is ripe amongst the T1 nations. They think all they have to do is show up against these teams. I've seen it too many times now to believe they are going to change their attitude. I've seen it from the Wallabies, I've seen it from the Springboks, the French, they've all screwed up thanks to arrogance towards their opposition. Maybe when they start missing out on quarter final places is when they may start taking notice.

By the way, I'm not saying they are going to win, but I do think they'll be far more competitive than anticipated. At least they'll score some tries this time around.

Considering their pool opponents: Ireland, Scotland, Romania/Samoa and Japan there's a strong chance for at least one win, and they'll be competitive in all bar the Ireland game.

Also the Marca twitter comments are very positive, which is nice.

If everyone makes themself availble. The chance is very high. If we have to play with our current team we can still probably do it but it will be a much harder task.

I am happy to see Spain almost clinching that Europe 1 spot. Gives a breeze of fresh air to the competition. Despite Namibia´s "good run" at the RWC2015 (considering what their performances were in all previous RWC -excluding the v Ireland in´07 aside-) I am hoping Zimbabwe or Kenya become serious contenders for the Africa 1 spot too.

Now the question I have asked myself (after the victory against Rumania) with a tangible RWC place, how many French / Argentine with dual nationality will become available to try and make the squad... And would it help in the long run, considering the hard job has already been done?

In my opinion, the squad is almost done. David Melé and Christopher Ruiz have been around this team, and would be welcomed, if Ezeala is willing to play for Spain would be great news, and a top class prop is always handy, but that's all.

All the other players who want to play for Spain and have not debuted yet should be called for REC 2020, if they are worthy.

The team has made too great efforts, to tell them that somebody that has never though of playing for Spain before will replace them at RWC.

By 2020 there will be several retirements in the current squad (Nava, Sneed, Gavidi, probably Linklater...), and everybody willing to join will have opportunities.
