African qualifiers for JWRT 2018

Postby Neptune » Thu, 29 Mar 2018, 04:17

Today, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Madagascar met to compete for Africa's sole slot at the JWRT championships.
Kenya beat Madagascar 51 - 13, While Namibia beat Zimbabwe 27 - 17.
Kenya will now face Namibia in the South final, while Tunisia will face Senegal in the North final.
The south winner will face the north winner for a chance to play at the JWRT Trophy.

Personally, I think this format is not good, as any team in the south can easily over-run any north side 60+ points. Seeding would have been more appropriate. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Other opinions are welcome.

what about travel cost? that would be the sole explanation... on the other hand: if you want to participate at the JWRT you have to beat everyone.

Travel costs in Africa are relatively cheap, plus all African citizens have visa free access to all countries on the continent apart from South Africa, so filing paperwork for visa permits won't be an issue.

There isn't any junior competition for T2/3s that is not played in a single venue format. The only other format is to have a sole group.

For those who want to watch the games download the Teevee Africa app onto your phone, its free on google play, and the games can be viewed live.

All the best against the junior makis on Saturday. You really put up a fight against Namibia, but lost narrowly. Good stuff :)

Zimbabwe 62 - Madagascar 12 with 15 mins to go. A century score could be done here if time allows.

Again disappointing by junior makis. A rugby passionate nation and they can't emerge neither at U19 level, where the body strength seems less determinant

I've read that a kenyan player (the flyhalf ?) is called Michele Brighetti. Do you know something about him, Neptune?

Nope, I have no idea, as I don't live in Kenya currently, but name sounds Italian.
