2014 Tipping Competition - The Champion wins a T-shirt!

Postby iul » Mon, 16 Jun 2014, 09:58

The winner of the 2014 International Rugby Tipping Competition will get his favorite nation's rugby T-shirt (the winner can pick any nation, provided their T-shirts can actually be bought from somewhere online).

In order to participate you need to follow these steps:
1. Log into your forum account (register a forum account if you don't have one already)
2. Go to the tipping page: http://t2rugby.com/tipping/
3. Click on "Integrate my account". You only have to do this the first time you visit that page.

You can read more information about the scoring and ranking system and other information here: t2rugby.com/tipping/rules/

You have to press "Save" after making your picks. The Save button sits at the very bottom of the page, so you will have to scroll past all the older matches to get to it.

I have added a button linking to the tipping site on the top left side of the forum (next to the login/logout button)

Paratus is the tipping honcho. If there are games that need to be added, talk to him.

Best of luck to everyone!

This is a far better way of doing it in my opinion than on the FIRA forum where the page would end up getting clogged up with like 10 tipping threads distracting from the news/discussions.

Oh, and every match has this image sitting on the right site:
Image
If you click on it you can see what all the other users have tipped. If you then click on a user's name you can see all the predictions that users has made.

REMEMBER, after filling in your predictions you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save.

What if that image was hidden until maybe the game starts or after the game? Could be interesting if everyone's pick is "secret" until match day!

I can do that from the script's options, but why would it be interesting? On other sites like superbru you can see everyone's picks at any time.

I think it's more interesting because then you have to make your picks blindly, can't wait until the last minute and strategically pick based on the pack. I just think it adds a little more intrigue, keeps the picks honest to what you think. I don't know, well Price is Right everyone's "bid" is announced live in order influenced by others....just thinking out loud (been up for over 24 hours straight so forgive me if I sound like a complete idiot at the moment)!

In any event, I definitely like the site setup, easy navigation, it looks like it will be a lot easier to not only pick but for mods/admins to maintain I imagine as well!

Cool! At the moment I'm joint winner.

I think keeping tips secret is not so important because you are not trying to be closer than anyone else, only as close as possible. So making tactical tipping at the last moment has no sense.

OK, so the seamless account integration from the forum to the tipping site wasn't so seamless after all and it was causing some forum users to be unable to login on the forum, therefore I have been forced to remove that feature for the time being. Those who have already already integrated their account into the tipping site can log-in there with the same username and password they had on the forum at the moment they integrated the account.
The users who have not yet integrated their account will have to manually create a new account on the tipping site. Please create your tipping accounts with the same name as your forum accounts.

Hello everyone, I have now posted all the fixtures for this week up until the 22nd June, starting with round 2 of the Africa Cup Division 1C tomorrow (sorry I was too late with posting Brunei v Mongolia today). You can place your tips now following the information posted by iul above and the rules found on the tipping page.

If you have moved from the FIRA forum to this forum I will (unofficially) be keeping a record of your previous scores this year so all is not lost. Just let me know if you have changed your username for this forum so I can tally your scores correctly.

As ever......

Good Luck!

My apologies for the first balls up of the tipping schedule, I got Africa Cup Division 1C fixtures round 2 and 3 the wrong way round. Well with 31 international fixtures on the tipping this week something was bound to go wrong! Now corrected.

OK, so how did Sables4EVA get 3 exact results right for the Africa Cup? Something went terribly wrong here. I need to investigate.

EDIT: Aren't those (Nigeria-Swaziland, Mauritius -Zambia, Botswana -Rustenberg Impala (RSA) ) the games that I had filled in the results for yesterday? I think by changing the teams some error appeared because Sables4Eva definitively didn't have 15 points yesterday :)

I put in the results as they were, bit of confusion iul, please remove my points, I don't deserve them as I now understand how it works.

OK, but something still went wrong, because you weren't supposed to be able to pick results after the games have taken place. I'll look into it.

@paratus, when you edited the games I think something went wrong and it was still possible to pick results despite the games already happened. From now on, if a game is put in wrongly, delete the game and create a new one, this way we'll be certain to avoid issues.
I have removed those three games altogether for now, so I apologize to the users that have gotten points for them, but we're still learning here :). It didn't help that the very first week was a monster week with a lot of games :).

Yes that's right, when I edited the Africa Cup games to reflect the right dates that screwed things up - learning by my mistakes!
