Canadian rugby

For sure....Hearn.
Probably... Rumball, Baillie, Duru, Tierney and Howard.
Maybe....Blevins, Mackenzie and Percillier(though WAY down the depth chart)
Re: Canadian rugby
Awful game from Canada all around. 10 points in the first eight minutes, then silence.
I was screaming when they didn't got for three points towards the end of the game. Get a bonus point at least, you bell ends. Was that Rumball's call as captain? Infuriating.
Brazil's scrum is so good. They beat us every time. Really surprised Canada didn't get a yellow for repeated scrum penalties... but I think the ref knew that it wouldn't get better.
Whoever played #19 is lucky he didn't get a yellow for that elbow.
Player ratings:
Hearn: 6
Lloyd: 5
Blevins: 4
Everyone else: 2

A bunch of these guys won't be at the World Cup and if they are it'll be in bench roles. Baillie and Hearn are probably the only two that would be in the best XV that Canada can field at the moment. After that it's some guys that are competing for bench spots or guys that will be involved next RWC cycle. It's not terrible, but it's not great either.

Re: Canadian rugby
Also, I'll say that Baillie, as always, was one of the few guys that showed some heart. He's always a grinder and I wish we had 15 guys that fight like he does.
Re: Canadian rugby
A few points, we were terrible. I would rather watch high school girls rugby...
1. SDS is lazy, Parfrey is terrible, Campbell is a floater, not a fan of Tierney
2. The referee was terrible, but we allowed him to be.
3. tactics were very amateur (take the points on hand, we are not good enough to not take easy points, especially against teams that will start to panic if we are starting to gain on them)
4. Too many blank stares from players. There were several moments that players looking completely clueless to what the game plan was, and how to change things around
5. Stop kicking away ball. we aimlessly kick the ball because we think we can put them under pressure. Which if it worked and they made a mistake we were awarded with a set scrum that we turned into a penalty for them.
6. Stop whining and start working. Far too many people yapping to the referee.
7. Take the ball at pace if you're going to run on to something.
8. Maybe we should start playing like Brazil. Build a scrum that makes teams work, and find the scrappiest players that will go out and just make the other team work for everything. Right now we have a team that is soft, unthreatening and not very rugby intelligent. ie: kicking the ball back to the other team with no time left on the clock and down by 8... How about trying to score for a bonus point.
9. USA will kill us by 60+

Re: Canadian rugby
Another thing I don;t get is how we somehow managed to cock up things even WORSE after half time! Like at half time adjustments should have been made as Brazil had crept back to 10-9, yet after the interval Canada were even more out to lunch.

This is like a decade of pay to play biting us in the ass. A bunch of soft rich kids who have been told they are amazing at rugby their entire lives when they are actually average.

I believe so too.

My favourite part about that was Mackenzie looked at Tierney like it was his fault. Didn't even try to recover the ball.

Tierney was just completely confused, I think he thought he'd been punched or something as he looked around.

10: Shane O'Leary, although Kingsley doesn't see high on him and he didn't play much (if at all) during the Repechage.
9: Mack
Wing: Staller and DTH
Lock/Flank: Olmstead trying to make the Blues
Flank: Ardron, Waikato Chiefs Pre-season.
Then you've got the best CAN LHPs playing MLR this weekend. Brouwer and Buydens for Ontario and NOLA.

In the 23:
15. Ciaran Hearn – (London Irish) Conception Bay South, NL
1. Djustice Sears-Duru – (Seattle Seawolves) Oakville, ON
3. Matt Tierney – (Pau) Oakville, ON
Pick one or two of the below:
7. Lucas Rumball – Captain(Toronto Arrows) Mississauga, ON
6. Kyle Baillie – (NOLA Gold) Summerside, PEI
5. Josh Larsen – (Austin Elite) Parskville, BC
Make the team:

14. Andrew Coe – (Markham Irish) Toronto, ON
Doubt it:
2. Eric Howard – (NOLA Gold) Ottawa, ON
4. Conor Keys – (Rotherham Titans) Stittsville, ON

Probably missing someone, but also probably an injury or two. That's a terrible squad. It could be one of the worst 2-9-10 combos in WC history.
I didn't see any potential help in the Arrows games either. They looked like a bigger club rugby team. Skills were not there and many of them didn't even look in shape.

Re: Canadian rugby
Howard is on the roster, you're going to have to find another hooker because for the moment Kingsley isn't trying to build to the World Cup but rather himself being relieved in advance. Why isn't Barkwill in South America?

Re: Canadian rugby
I really can't understand Canada did not followed USA and fielded a team closer to what they want for the RWC... You'd be saving the pride of the team and not risking your ranking. It was not a suprise being beaten in Brazil... It was not hard seeing that coming. Your rugby is still above ours, it just needs a more lucid work.

He was but wasn't playing, the camera went over to him just sitting there not doing anything. Maybe he has a slight knock? Kingsley makes bizarre selections even with a limited talent pool. Like honestly most of the Canadian team picks itself and the tweaking is mostly choosing 3-4 guys to start or go bench and another 2-3 to go Bench or Reserves.
One minor consolation is Jones actually spotted many of the things we did, and critiqued the player attitudes. This is better than the usual Rees assesment.

It is announced that DTH van der Merwe is injured for rest of PRO 14 season. Do you have more details? Is he able to play at RWC?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think he's targetting a return for the RWC warm up tests from the piece at America's Rugby News.
Re: Canadian rugby
Man, I say leave all the players at the Arrows, that we might actually have a team picking up more wins than losses in this country.

Re: Canadian rugby
The only real positive is that we've locked Will Percillier in with a cap, hes the only guy that showed any real promise and I hope we bring him to Japan.

Justice stays home and Barker makes the World Cup trip, Barker can play hook also.
Re: Canadian rugby
I have to say watching this hammers home the fact that Canada needs a 2nd MLR team and soon
Re: Canadian rugby
What we need is for the foreigners that are playing for the Arrows to stay here for three years and become eligible for the next world cup. Hopefully they can recruit some big beefy props.

Yup, Canada needs a 2nd MLR team badly. I wonder when they're going to get their act together out there in BC, they're apparently the rugby hotbed of Canada yet nothing but crickets from BC about an MLR team.
