Ok one of my mates wrote to the Malta RFU why they aren't hosting the game and got a pretty quick and nice response. The answer he got is that it is due to logistical and management reasons, and the short time-frame. Lithuania was, therefore, the more practical host.

I'm sure there's something a bit off at the moment with Malta Rugby, even more than suggested by the email in the previous post. The complete lack of updates or news from Malta in the last fortnight hints at big problems. There is no way there would normally be 70 points difference between these two teams.

The last 2 teams promoted from this level in the form of the Czech Republic and Switzerland have established themselves in the RET relatively comfortably and it will be interesting if Lithuania do the same. If they pick up the fixture slot from the Moldovans then they should have the Poles and Czechs at home, with the rest away.

From the game yesterday they look to have a young squad of domestically based players full of hard runners in the forwards and backs who play a fast brand of rugby. Apart from the mythical tight head prop Ignas Darkintas they lack foreign based players of the same standard as other teams in the RET but we’ve seen this not always work to a teams advantage when the foreign clubs often preferring not to release these players. Out of interest, there is a London Lithuanian rugby club based in East London where many Lithuanians live in the UK.

It would have been a nice away trip if Malta had won, but you can’t argue with a that big a points difference and the visiting players were just run off their feet before the end of the first half. It seems strange that the Maltese Union couldn’t have organised a home game as they must have expected this eventuality given the form of their team. Anyway, Well done to the Lithuanians.

Lithuanian foreign based players :
Karolis Navickas (lock, US Bressane, Federale 1, France) / Can maybe play in ProD2 next season with US Bressane.
Jonas Mikalcius (wing, Harlequins / Hartpury College, England) / He has not played this season cause of injury, but was top try scorer in National League One in 2016-17 with Hartpury College.

I hope this two players can be with Lithuania team next year in RET.
