Demain aura lieu le barrage retour Asie/Océanie, décisif dans la course à la qualification pour la coupe du monde de rugby de 2019 au Japon. Celui-ci opposera Hong Kong aux îles Cook. Après une victoire facile à l'aller la semaine dernière (26 à 03), le sélectionneur Leigh Jones fait un peu tourner son effectif en effectuant quatre changements dans son XV de départ.

En première ligne, le pilier gauche Adam Fullgrabe (Kowloon RFC) remplace Daniel Barlow (Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers) tandis que Ben Roberts (Herbert Smith Freehills HKCC) retrouve sa place de titulaire au talonnage. On note en troisième ligne aile la 56ème sélection du troisième ligne aile Nick Hewson (Societe Generale Valley), lui qui avait fait ses grands débuts internationaux contre l'Allemagne en 2009 et qui devient le joueur le plus capé de l'histoire des Dragons.

A la charnière, Cado Lee Ka-to (Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers) remplace Liam Slatem (Herbert Smith Freehills HKCC) et aura l'occasion de montrer son expérience acquise en Top League japonaise avec NEC Green Rockets. Le jeune phénomène Max Denmark (Natixis HKFC) se voit donner du temps de jeu en étant titularisé à l'aile gauche, Conor Hartley (Bloomberg HK Scottish) ayant fait suffisamment le travail lors du barrage aller.

Sur le banc des remplaçants, l'ouvreur Benjamin Rimene (Societe Generale Valley) fait son retour, montrant la profondeur et la qualité de l'effectif hongkongais. La rencontre aura lieu ce samedi dans le Hong Kong Football Club d'Hong Kong à 10h30 du matin (heure française). Le vainqueur du barrage se qualifiera pour le tournoi de repêchage en novembre en France!

Don't want to blow my own trumpet too much but on another thread I predicted a 15-35 win away in Raro for HKG and a 35-60 rout in HKG. Pretty much as expected desdpite some on here predicting a fairly close series. As I also said in the other thread, the days of a few Kiwis and Aussies turning up and making a difference are largely over with more unions starting their own HP programmes.
