I watched Oceania U20 Championship final game Australia vs. New Zealand. Wallabies won 24-0. Amazing, isn't it?
Meantime the score reflect the situation. During 80 minutes Kiwis could not manage to build a single combination.
Their players (a big majority of them) lack quickness and skills. In general it was hard to say that the given is from NZ.

It would be interesting to know opinion of our NZ mates.

USA Rugby finally posted their broad u20 squad for the USA v canada qualifiers for JWRT.

https://www.usarugby.org/2019/05/usa-me ... tion-camp/

First time ever includes 5 Cal players who will only be available in June and wont join the May camp (baby steps). Every year I feel like we have a really strong squad but many year they underperform and lose to canada. Last year they had 2 players now playing in overseas Tier 1 leagues (Ainuu, De Haas) along with about 5-6 guys contributing to MLR now, but still got blown out in one of the 2 canada matches.

World Rugby has just revealed the 2019 WR U20s Trophy groups and fixtures - to be played in São José dos Campos, Brazil - from July 9th (holiday in São Paulo state) to 21st.

https://www.world.rugby/news/420621 (sorry, unreal 16m fans in Brazil, NO WAY).

Group A: Japan, Kenya, Uruguay and Canada/USA
Group B: Brazil, Hong Kong, Portugal and Tonga

Curumins (Brazil U20s team) are lucky to have Hong Kong in the group. At least a chance to have a win.

Nielsen´s definition of "fan"is a Marketing bubble. It will build a poor image around WR

We discovered it's a good move to avoid relegation :)

Anyway, it has to be confirmed. The FIR president didn't even specify where the championship would be hosted. The two past italian editions were organized by Veneto and by Lombardia, two northern regions. If confirmed, I'd like to see this third italian JRWC in Tuscany or Lazio, in the middle of the nation

I heard that the probable host might be TREVISO and surroundings (i.e. Veneto).
Is there a chance for that?

I doubt a lot. The last news you may find on google say there's a project to transform it in a "museum" of Lazio football club. I don't know if this idea will go on and I don't know what it would signify but the feeling is that the stadium is still far to be completely restored. But I admit that I've no direct news, this is just what I've read on a rapid search on google

I don't know.
Anyway now I think to remember that we already had this discussion.
Sorry if I had already written this "news" about next JWC in Italy but I just forgot it. Maybe last time it was just a "rumor", while now there's the direct word of federal president

I love U20 rugby. I (obviously) attended WC 2017 in Georgia, last year in France, Argentina is too far, looking forward to coming to Italy.
That is why I try to find put where it will take place.
I have never been in northern part of the country. That would be great to visit any: Veneto or Tuscany.

How Sudamerica Rugby is always unable to publish kickoff times???

Seriously. Look at their press releases. It is unbelivable.

South American M18 Challenge - day 1:

Argentina 68-3 Paraguay
Uruguay 39-0 Brazil
Argentina 43-7 Chile
Brazil 22-7 Paraguay
Uruguay 20-12 Chile

Brazil's defeat seems harsh. let's see how they perform versus Chile.

Was this the best sides USA and Canada could pick for the under 20s game. In the past i think USA have had trouble picking there best players because of other commitments.

They did get a broader pool of players this year available for selection including Cal and St marys. But there is still a fundamental disconnect for preparation. A lot of those guys were not available for the May camp (one brief internal training camp)

You had guys like Sam Walsh from Cal who have been training for 7s since April and literally played for Cal in the CRC 3 days before the first Canada game.

I guess i have come to accept the harsh reality that u20 just doesnt fit in the current framework for US Rugby. HSAA / u18 are less experienced players but includes a huge pool generally able to commit to train as well as some of the incredible athletes who by u20s will be out of rugby on a college scholarship (hopefully to return at age 23-24).

u20 matches wind up being more a chance for indiviudal players to demonstrate their athletic prowess. The structure is not there, the focus is not there. It always looks like a mess.

If we accept its just for certain players to raise their profile and get more attention nationally or possibly for overseas clubs, then its extra bad that we can never get to the JWRT and are left with 2 games against Canada.
