Fantastic achievement by Fiji. Just shows that when they get their best players together and have the chance to train together for a few weeks, they can beat anyone (well, most people).
If only some billionaire could bankroll a team like Fiji or Samoa so that they are not lured to play for other nations.

Is Forrest actually funding the PI teams in GRR?

I don't know why Forrest just doesn't invite the Drua NRC team. Why set up another Fiji team when there's already one there?

He's not. The team will be the Drua just bolstered by some o/s based talent.

Are you sure? I've not heard any mention of the Fijian team being the Drua.

That's apparently the word out of the Fijian Union.

Yep. I'm also hoping to see the proposed Samoan squad pop up in the NRC as well.

Has there been one proposed? If so, that's a good idea. Will give them a proper pathway.

It was reported several weeks back that in light of the Drua's success in the NRC that WR has begun to talk to RA about the possibility of a 2nd PI squad joining the fray. With their apparent involvement in GRR they will have a ready made squad that could easily just slip into the structure as yearly as next season.

Okay, thanks. The ideal setup would be a combined Super Rugby team, but that is not financially feasible, of course.

Just done the maths - 20 of 23 players who were in the squad for the France game were born in Fiji - a very impressive achievement.

I mean, the Force played in both so I reckon the Drua can too.

Basically. I'm actually hoping that the Samoan squad gets given a look in as well.

Yeah I’d very much like that, mentioned it on the other sub about the super rugby rejection but didn’t realize it was a real plan. What about Tonga?

Tonga while producing quite a lot of homegrown talent just doesn't have the population to form their own sustainable squad. While a very similar argument could also be made for Samoa they appear to have the necessary backing from somewhere. That said, if WR are willing to back a Tongan squad in the NRC then I'd be all for it. Though them being based in Tonga due to lack of facilities (TV etc.) may be an impediment.

Regarding GRR while both Fiji and Samoa will have their own squads it has been suggested that the mooted Hawaiian squad will draw from Tonga.

Just give them regular games, like the Drua had. That has had an almost immediate effect, with that France win. If Super RUgby is not feasible, the NRC is good enough. Just give that local tier a chance to play together regualrly.
