Thats awesome for Chile. Was there any unusual factors or did they just play exceptionally well?

I arrived both days at 18.00 or so. Yesterday I left just before the rain started.

Uruguay played a thrilling match versus South Africa. We scored early and built a solid defense the rest of the match.

The match versus Germany was tight, both made great moves and poor mistakes. We played poorly versus Unuted States. I didnt watch the match versus Canada.

I took photos and videos as usual. I didnt bring my computer, so I must return to Montevideo to upload them.

Very good performance by the chilean team, which was favoured by the bad weather conditions in the final. It is important to consider that is not exactly the same team which obtained the 17° place in San Francisco´s Sevens WC : Torrealba, the scrum half and key player had moved to USA to play for Austin but the replacement delivered.

AS Santiago Gómez Cora said "is a good new for South America that a team from the region could contest the Pumas". Now, Chile has good possibilities to get a place in Las Vegas and Vancouver and also in the 2nd division of Hong Kong. The distance with Argentina in sevens is still huge, but Chile has shortened it a little bit. We expect that in Viña, Chile will reach semi finals (it did not happen last year).

NAB URU :

We were surprised by the few people in the stadium. At least 3/4 of it was empty, which was the reason? is it too large? the bad weather?too expensive the tickets?
The tournament in Viña is played in a small stadium but in the 2018 second day they sold 5.000 tickets. I understand that the coming sunday is already sold out.
It is a private commercial venture which has been succesful since the beginning.

Yeah it’s been same last year too. Why is no one there? I understand only 9000 people live in the city and it’s a resort town but it’s been going on for 30 years now, you’d figure they could get some more people. Wouldn’t it be better to host this circuit in Montevideo?

People are in the middle of their summer vacations. Watching six hours of sevens doesn’t seem that enticing. Also, the tournament looked better than previous editions. More fans showed up, name sponsor, broadcast, streaming, etc.

So they are in Viña. Differences could be that Viña is a Rugby-mad city with several clubs in first and second divisions and the distance to the beach : only 6 blocks. So, around 6 PM there is a big movement from the beach to the pitch, but there was also a good attendance during the early afternoon last year.

Yeah but Punta is much warmer than Viña. If the weather is nice, it is impossible to attend the early afternoon games. And the city has shifted away from the stadium. Young people usually hang out in beaches that are an hour away. Maybe they should look into building some sort of temporary facility further east.

Victorsra:

There was a tournament of beach Rugby in Rio last month with the presence of only 3 selections : Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.
¿Is this tournament to be a yearly competition? ¿Isn 't there (FBR) interest to establish a full VII tournament which could bring the number of legs in South America to 3, offering a more interesting circuit to teams from oceania, europe and Africa?

It would also help the promotion of the sport in Brazil and would offer the brazilian VII team more competition.

In Chile we have a very extensive coast, so there are many beach tournaments from Novenber to March. Nevertheless, there is not a Rugby beach national team. The efforts are concentrated in Chile VII, so far with good results.

Here's my photos and videos: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cate ... _Este_2019

The Seven de Punta is organized by Old Boys Club. Tickets cost UY$ 250, or under US$ 8. Very accessible, especially for Punta del Este standards.

As others said, it was very hot. Most people arrived on sunset. Also rugby is simply not as popular as football.

There will be a River - Nacional football match next week at the same stadium. Tickets are about 10x as expensive, but attendance will be much bigger.

In the clubs tournament, CURNE (Club Universitario del Nordeste, from Resistencia, Chaco) defeated Old Boys at the final.

Nice a streaming option. I get to see USA vs Colombia for first time ever too so that’s a plus.

How many points do you get for each ranking?

If anyone was curious, Colombia needs Uruguay and Paraguay to do very poorly in order for them to have a shot of advancing as one of the two teams. Colombia must be at least 8th and 4 places higher than Uruguay. This may be slightly wrong but a general idea.

Basically they need to play lights out and hope Uruguay and Paraguay suck. Of course Brazil could come out ahead but they got dead last at the last tournament so they’re less of a concern.
