This is just a vision of what rugby is like when NZ and Australia are not at their strongest. Think RWC 2007. Attractive attacking rugby gives way to European-style stodge.

It's like both teams are afraid of the bloody ball. This is the polar opposite of Japanese rugby style.

We know that Wales relish this sort of rugby. I don’t think they’ll be upset at all about the way they’ve played. Boks are playing into their hands a bit here.

Wales had the ball for 21 phases and did nothing but try and bust through the SA line. Dumb.

It's like neither team wanted to win this, they were waiting for the other side to lose.

I disagree. South Africa did just enough to win. It's like they play, I'm not surprised

European-style indeed. South Africa won the World Cup by successfully deploying it in 2007. They threatened to dominate world rugby with it by beating NZ with it in 2009.

England have adapted superbly under Eddie Jones.

It is a matter of historical record that South Africa wins every third World Cup.

6 Nations teams certainly do seem to have their World Cup limitations. With France it's the final 0-3. With Wales it's the semis 0-3. With Ireland it's the quarters 0-7  & with Italy it's the group stages 0-9

England beat the All Blacks for the first time in 4 attempts at the World Cup and now stand on the threshold of a Rugby Championship slam, having also disposed of Argentina, Australia at this tournament. This takes them to an even 9-9 against RC teams.

Wales, on the other hand, suffered their third defeat from as many encounters with the Boks at the World Cup, the same record they currently hold against the All Blacks.

Nonetheless, 6 Nations teams have won 5/8 clashes with RC teams at this World Cup so far. There are 2 to come next weekend, of course, with Wales looking for its first win over the All Blacks in 66 years in the 3rd place playoff.

Updated North-South World Cup table (v NZ, SA, Aus, Arg):
England (9-9) 1-3 1-3 4-3 3-0
France (5-9) 2-5 0-1 1-1 2-2
Wales (4-11) 0-3 0-3 2-5 2-0
Scotland (0-11) 0-5 0-2 0-2 0-2
Ireland (2-9) 0-2 0-0 1-4 1-3
Italy (1-8) 0-5 0-1 0-1 1-1

New Zealand the only team Wales have not beaten under Gatland, wouldn't underestimate that motivation for him to go out on a high. NZ a much better side but will they have the same level of motivation? a 3rd or 4th place won't affect the legacy of Hanson.

I think the motivation is there for Wales, but not with our injuries.

I somewhat agree Wales have the motivation but injuries have depleted the side and it hasn't been pretty. their sports Medicine team will be working overtime to get them ready.

I feel SA will play similarly to their game plan against Japan. We didn't see the real SA against Wales.

Wales didnt go for it, they played to not lose not to win. A lot of players will regret that performance.

It was always going to be dull in terms of attacking rugby. Those two and Ireland are by far the worst teams to watch.

I think the final will feature a lot of kicks but England should have too much class.
