Timezones are terrible for Americas fans, not to mention the multiple midweek matches.

Many sleepless nights ahead then, lol.

NaBru, think how many sleepless nights Kiwis and Aussies have had whenever the RWC has been held in Europe (Yeah even friggin' second RWC basically!). Even when I was living in Japan rugby and football WCs in Europe were similarly crappy times (infact even worse than NZ - about same as Aussie). Somehow Europeans escape the worst effects of timezones. Even this one in Japan will not be too bad for them - breakfast until lunchtime. yes not peak time but nowhere near middle of the night either! And Europeans can't even complain about RWCs held in NZ and Aussie because their games have almost always been at watchable hours, even the final. Contrast that with RWC15 where the game was held mid afternoon by the English making kiwis and Aussies get up, yet again, in the middle of the night. The final at least should have been an evening kickoff.

I'm satisfied, Italy's games will be on one of the main channels and this is already a big achievement. The other 17 games mentioned by World Rugby's article will be shown by Rai Sport, a minor Rai channel. But it's ok, it would have been unreal to have the whole World Cup on a main channel; we can't pretend that the average italian spectator is interested in South Africa-Namibia or Scotland-Tonga.
It's an optimum deal to me. Furthermore RAI promised to not only show the games but also to narrate the stories behind the World Cup, "because rugby, like cycling, is an infinite source of great human stories"

Will be in Bucharest for the opening, is there a good place to watch the match or a rugby club open that day?

In Europe appeared Italy, Cyprus and Israel but still big names missing. Same for Canada in North America

Very strange, that they don't publish the German broadcaster one year after they announced it. But they didn't even post the German win of the European 7s championship on Social Media so that's hardly a surprise that Germany is ignored :D

@suofficer
Here my post from the last page
https://www.ran.de/rugby/news/rugby-wm- ... eam-113992

Pro7Maxx announced their broadcasting in November 2018 and they recently made some promotion videos in Heidelberg with the German national team (7s) for their live broadcasts.
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

they'll show the first matches of the two starting weekends. I checked it. No midweek games, except at ran.de I guess. So Georgia vs Uruguay will be shown in german TV. Nice.

It is strange.

TSN is advertising on TV that they are showing it. My Bell guy says they are. But nothing on the web.

Check their listing, they aren't showing all the games but are showing some.

Most of the games are on at 3am in the morning.

A question: RAI (italian television) bought the rights for the World Cup but they are going to show just 17 games out of 48, do you think that the remaining ones could be available on live stream on World Rugby website?

Italian Federation didn't explain that and on World Rugby website I can't find the usual disclaimer "all the other games (id est the ones not shown by local tv) will be transmitted live on our website".
Anyway I fear that that kind of disclaimer just involves the countries where the rights have not been sold at all; I suspect that having RAI bought the rights for the World Cup also the 31 games not shown by them will be obscured in an eventual World Rugby live stream

The choice of the kick off times is a bit strange: why there's no one game at 20.30 or 21.00? The most late games start at 19.45.
A 21 kick off would have meant a 14.00 start in central Europe/South Africa, 13.00 in UK, 09.00 in Argentina, more desirable times for the fans, overall during the weekend. Maybe they looked mostly at the Australian and NZ fans: a 21 kick off would mean midnight kick off in Wellington, a bit too late

Maybe Rai will show it on stream or replay. Maybe they will sell it to another channel.

You could be right. Rai Sport has a minor "Rai Sport Web" on line channel, maybe -who knows?- the other games will be shown there

Yeah that broadcasting page is strange, or more frankly-speaking, pathetic! It doesn't include TVNZ, the free to air NZ broadcaster, and there's probably also a free to air Aussie channel picking up some games. I think there's quite a number of broadcasting details absent or incorrect.

They shamefully can't even get the host nation details correct. Dentsu is not a tv channel. It's a public relations company contracted to the JRFU to negotiate tv and sponsorship deals. It's well known that JSky Sports has the live deal for all games, while public broadcaster NHK and private network NTV will share the free to air broadcasts. DAZN also has broadcast rights there.

And btw this is not just a "lost in translation" issue. The same page on the Japanese language site has exactly the same info

Very exciting here. All 48 matches will be live on main ESPN channel and there will be a daily RWC show called Scrum ESPN (in fact, only in matchdays), with the debate about all matches, always at the nice 7PM time. As the times of the matches are bad, the VTs are crucial and all matches next weekend will have good schedule for VTs (except Italy - Namibia, sorry Canalina).
