Rugby Podcasts

Postby RugbyLiebe » Mon, 11 Nov 2019, 12:44

I just checked out Victor's find of the podcast Rugby Reloaded, and I really liked it a lot, so I thought we might have a dedicated thread for that. Just add a rugby podcast you know and write a bit, what it is about. If you don't know what a podcast is (well you probably all do know). It is like a blog, but in audio. There are various apps for your various mobiles out there (called fetchers) who browse the web for podcasts of all kinds. I always listen to podcasts on my way to work.

Language: English

Having only heared two episodes (78+79) yet, I can already say, that this is good stuff.
The podcaster and a guest (a historian) talk about the first World Cup, how rugby is run like an exclusive club and not like a regular sports federation etc.
Really intersting backgrounds as well and his English accent is also really easy to understand, if you are not the type to easily get every regional English tongue ;)
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

We from Portal do Rugby have one since 2016, it is called "Mesa Oval" ("Oval Table"), in partnership with Central3. It is in Portuguese, but if your Spanish is good you could try to listen. It is about Brazilian Rugby.

And we've created a new one now, about international rugby, called Ovalcast, with friends from Portuguese website Fair Play involved. A bit experimental a the moment.

Yes, Tony Collins, author of really good History books about Rugby (both Union and League in fact). There is one episode we did together about Brazilian Rugby History. He interviews many people (journalists and historians) that write about and study rugby's history.

These two are the last ones:

Here are a couple I've found in a few different languages. I haven't listened to all of them so will just describe their main topic as best as I can. Going to focus more on Tier 2 if possible.

English
Earful of Dirt - MLR/USA Rugby (host is our Stro Bro)
Red White and Black Eye - MLR/USA Rugby (one of the first too, if i'm not mistaken)
MLR Kickoff - MLR
Rugby Patcast - MLR/USA Rugby
The Rugby Coach's Corner - interviews with coaches around the world
Le Rouge Rugby Podcast - Canada
ARN Podcast - terrific podcast on the Americas from Americas Rugby News, unfortunately they haven't recorded since last February
Rugby Wrap Up - MLR/USA rugby, hosted by a NYRC old boy and often has in-studio interviews with key members of USA Rugby

Spanish
En La Mele - Spanish equivalent of Earful of Dirt
XV Podcast de Rugby - Argentina
Hablemos de Rugby - Argentina (and I believe Uruguay/South America)

There are a lot more Spanish language podcasts that I've come across but for the life of me I can't remember them. I'm sure Ignacio Chans has one too.

Hablemos de Rugby is Argentina and Spain but they only talk about professional rugby except when Astesiano has been told something tasty about South America.

And yeah, there are tons of rugby podcasts in Spanish. I listen to one or two every day. Chans one for El Observador is called Medioscrum.

Vorpass - der Rugby-Podcast

language: German

A nice little podcast project which got back to life during the World Cup. Nice in deep analysis of nearly all games, enjoyed listening to it and hope it continues post-RWC.

Tony Collins, he's a rugby league fan originally from Hull now a lecturer at De Montfort University in Leicester. Good stuff from him very readable histort writing. The Oval World is a really good history of the game.

The Australian one I enjoy a lot is the Rugby Ruckus hosted by Morgan Turinui (Wallaby 782) and Ben Kimber.
