Ah, thanks. Hopefully Banks appears this time; although it will all be for nought if Crowley can't do better as coach.

Houston + Cheetahs = Pro 14?

Conferences with one "far" team in each?

The Cheetahs can't play the PRO12 without SARU's approval.

Surely if one of the axed SA teams is joining the other will as well to make it a Super XV which could work quite well

You could have 3 conferences of 5, Ireland x4 + Houston, Wales x4 plus Italian x1 and Scotland x2, SA x2 and Italian x1. Each team plays the teams in their conference home and away for 8 games plus all other teams once to give the 18 match season they were after.

SARU just stated that two of their teams being cut were going to still play...so this is done.

Pro 12 may split into two halves
The Scotsman 2 Jun 2017
authorities seek to trim their league to 15 teams.

The Cheetahs, for whom Scotland prop WP Nel turned out before moving to Edinburgh, have denied receiving any “official invitation” and may be reluctant to jump into bed with the Pro12 until they know their Super Rugby future .

Some sources have suggested that the South African Rugby Union (SARU) are keen for the Pro 12 to take on both the Cheetahs and the Southern Kings. The European teams could play both on one trip to South Africa.

The South African broadcaster Super Sport owns a slice of the Cheetahs franchise and would provide an obvious broadcast partner in any such venture.

If two South African franchises do join it would be the season after next at the earliest, and there is every possibility that they would be joined by one or more franchises in North America with the Pro 12 expanding to two conferences. Teams would play opposition in the same conference twice, home and away, and teams in the other conference just once, home or away.

The exact numbers may depend upon the fate of the two Italian sides Zebre and Benetton Treviso, whose Pro 12 future has been called into question

I can't see how the Pro 12 could be split into two conferences satisfactorily.

The 4 Irish provinces will want to be in the same conference, ditto for the 4 Welsh teams. Do you split the Irish & Welsh teams?

Similarly the 2 Scottish teams do big ticket numbers for their derby fixtures, so they'll want to be in the same conference too.

Irish + Scots + Houston

Welsh + Italians + SA

Slightly uneven numbers but inevitable with 15 teams.

Would love that split, especially if we avoid the Irish refs as well.

I never noticed that Bradley was the rumour earlier in the year. The link with Conor OShea would make sense and as amz says his impact on CSM was immediate and impressive (although being able to sign decent players makes a difference). I would be very happy with this appointment as i think Zebre have a lot of potential as an organisation.

When you win 2 games a season, average 2000 fans and sometimes half your 23 is foreign despite ostensibly being union controlled (ie for the development of Italian players) the only way to go is up.

THe hand of O'Shea is already evident.

They (Zebre) have released a lot of journeymen foreign born players and have signed half a dozen of the most promising young Italian players. Ceccarelli & Ruzza are big losses though.

Rumor around internet, take it with a pinch of salt:
Billionaire talking to Pro12 about Germany joining. Team to be Heidelberg.
In addition Pro 12 talking with South Africa, Canada and USA about all joining. Want to make two conference model.

Yeah, I think Germany will be out of the running for the Pro12, particularly that they now have a connection to
Stade France. But Pro12 are clearly serious about aggressively pursuing expansion, so who knows for sure?

Summary of it
- Hans Peter Wild is in talks and was special guest at the pro12 final last week. He is also thinking about buying Stade Francis.
- South African teamS and north American teams could also join which mean it could span 8 countries.
- Discussions due to be finalised within weeks.
- 2 conferences and an 8 team knock out at end of season.

Not sure about Heidelberg - potential to repeat what's happened in Treviso (small 'rugby-saturated' market with little room for growth). The German national teams crowds in Heidelberg aren't even that good (around 2000 - sound familiar?) despite a century of rugby heritage there. Surely Frankfurt, Munich etc would be better bets.

I believe there are three different bids for Stade Français. And it depends on how much Herr Wild wants to spend, but it wouldn't be impossible to see a Stade Français owned by Wild and a German franchise officially owned by DRV but bankrolled by him.

Might see a Spanish side too sometime in the future if all goes to plan.

Forget about it. Pro 12 held talks with Spanish Rugby Union last summer and they were probably told the truth, that there is no money. And the only FER official that admitted these talks, back in January, has quit/was fired.

And clubs are too powerful here, yet totally opposed between them. FER hasn't got enough power.
