Dicks.

They used to sell guns, now they only sell MLB gloves.

Not a 60-13 game, but damn we needed that. Will sound strange to say but about as positive a game in the circumstances we could hope for. We are nowhere near USA level, but are in sight of that ballpark. Kind of European Challenge Cup away game level. We build from from here. Golosnitsky RUS MotM for me.

Final score US 62:13 Russia .
Sorry guys!
Considering that this period of year is optimal for Russian rugby team (according Russian supporters) I was little bit nervous. But something went wrong, probably too high altitude.
Anyway, thanks of your team now I know how All Black supporters are feeling.

was this the full russian squad?

they will need a lot more preperation, or else the 2019 rugby world cup will be ugly for rusia... especially since japan, ireland, and scotland are much better than the usa... hopefully russia does better vs canada

Russia will participate in WC by winning in court!
Russia took the 4 place in the second division!

In Russia only now with the advent of Artemyev began to develop rugby!

Do not forget about it!

They won't do shit. They have 2 games in 4 fucking days. The only way the could get a win is if they tank the game against Japan and target Samoa. They won't tank the opening game to the RWC2019.

I want to hope that not everything is so bad. You can find some excuses. The US is progressing rapidly, they are the winners of the ARC, they also beat Uruguay. We did not have the optimal composition and several players had complicated acclimatization in the mountains of Colorado. In any case, we need to work very well this year, so that in the opening match against Japan there was no major defeat. This is the main match for the Russian team.

You do realize Japan beat Italy quite easily. Italy had their best lineup. If you want a win I really don't see how you cand beat them in 1 year. I wanted Romania to go to the World Cup but the schedule for E1 is just dreadfull.

The way to go for you is to try and develop almost 2 teams. That way you can try to target Samoa as well. You can't go up against Japan and Samoa in 4 days with a one trick pony. You need 2 ponys. More tricks is harder, trust me.

The opening match is much more important than the game against Samoa. Against Japan should play all the best not to get. Minus 50 in the opening match, which will watch the entire planet is not the best rugby advertisement in Russia. The priority is obvious.

The team is going to have to worked harder than they ever have. They’ve got 15 months to figure out a plan, get the right coaches in, and train like they’ve never trained before. If that means going to World Rugby for financial assistance then so be it.

I've got no doubt they will be decent when the time comes. They've got 99% of their players in their own league and Sevens won't bother them next season. With new funding they can afford the best preparation of all 20 teams qualified.

I think with Artemyev money will not be our main problem.
The main problem is that after the collapse of Soviet Union nothing was done to develop rugby.

I wonder how the USSR team would have performed in the 1987 World Cup. Probably better than Zimbabwe.

USSR could defeat Italy at that time. A hug mistake was that they did not participate in WC 1987.

Yep, huge loss for rugby for us there. We weren't Romania, but we were approaching their league in 1987, youth win over NZ etc., it was building... and then lost.

No surprise we were hammered by USA.
Theyre better, everywhere. Add in: altitude, prep, home, elite guys playing in elite teams... seriously WTF did people expect? Theyre building too. Some of the comments here are full of just tiny little bit high expectations.

Test was all positives for me: we already (since a few days) knew where we have to be (and honestly won't get anywhere near, but pfft...), we now know exactly where we are: very, very clearly.
We traded blows, we lost almost everywhere, but hardly like we were experiencing some other planet level rugby, just that little bit above. That's easily enough to forge that scoreline. As I said elsewhere, it was like watching our Euro Challenge away games. How is anyone surprised by that? That we got the fixture and fought was what was needed. No one is hiding that save Namibia actually fucking up Africa 1 (unlikely), we will be comfortably the shittest team at the RWC (by some clear margin) with a Pool that sure as shit is going to highlight that some more on top, B is evidently preferable. Again, who knew?

We've been for some time the best team not at the RWC, now we get to be the worst at it. That's about it. We're kind of at our own little level like Georgia in that way. Not yet with the above, not yet caught by the below. No shame at all in yesterday.

EDIT: and fully agree with all RUS postings above: ALL efforts have to be on respectability (-50ish?) in Japan match, the Samoa* game 4 days later is nothing (*UNLESS it somehow happens to be Portugal in some parallel universe the existence of which I cannot even dreamland mentally construct).

EDIT 2: Whoever asked on whichever thread. Not a weakened team, certainly not an optimum. The right one given the circumstances, clearly.

FWIW, USA was much better pre-professional era, once 1995 hit and Tier 1 countries could take their players pro the gap widened like hell. Maybe it would've helped grow the sport but otherwise I don't think it would've made much of a difference.

It is very important that Russia have a dignified performance in the World Cup, in order to show that the teams ranked 18-24 have any prospects of catching up. A 2011-like performance would be great.

2 scores over 60 pts, 53-17 with Italy  this isn't a "dignified performance".
