New experimental team.
Ismailov for example from Slava 2 years ago played for an amateur from Tushino , Kalinin played in the 2 division of Championship of Moscow ...

Several months ago there were some reports regarding informal talks looking at the possibility of forming a Kontinental Rugby League involving teams from Russia, Gerogia, Romania and even further west such as Germany etc. Sort of along the lines of the Kontinental Hockey League. Interesting concept but not many details as yet.

Would be pretty cool if they got something going. Europe needs an extra structure to help elevate the next rung of nations into professionalism that will allow them to grow increasingly competitive internationally. Would be good if they could get some kind of East/West structure in place. Say 5-6 in each pool. Home and away in each pool and another five cross over games would be a really good start. the East could have 2 or 3 from Russia, a couple from Georgia and maybe one or two from Romania. Whatever set up best fits. The West could have 2 from Germany, 1 from the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and possibly Switzerland to start. All largely filled out by national team players.

Every participating nation look to eventually grow it until they all have say 3 teams each in the league. WR will be apparently supporting the LSR via increased HP grants or something like that which could be something they could look to do here.

Oh. I can be wrong, but what I had got is that it'b be 6/8 РПЛ clubs + 2 Geoorgian franchises -- and maybe further expansion teams from another countries (Poland? Germany? Ukraine?)

In a nutshell: an expanded Russian league, just like KXЛ

There was mention of Germany in the earlier releases. Geography wise a combined Russian/Georgian league would make more sense. Still, I think there is certainly merit in WR and the next rung of European nations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland etc. looking at trying to emulate what's being done with the LSR in South America.

After 5 years at best.
First we need to strengthen our own league.

In any case our league will play in the spring -autumn and few will be ready for these conditions ...

Heard of several Romanian clubs. But Poland and Ukraine are unlikely. Perhaps the second stage of league expansion.

Strengthen the existing league first, then bring in other nations. Something similar to Pro 14.

No chance Russian Romanian league to become PRO.

There is literally no interest to Rugby in Russia or Romania. I dont get where they get finances to run this project.

Comparing to Pro14 is not right, there are millions of people interested in this league, half of UK + Italy and RSA.

So this is dead end...

Why? There are good professional clubs in Romania. In Russia too. Now there are new ones. Have you heard about Lokomotiv Penza? They have the main sponsor of the Russian Railways.

If FRR involves Romanian teams in a Russian competition the disqualification reaction of fams will be a water gun. So no, not gonna happen.

The conversation goes between the unions. Morariu negotiated in Moscow with Artemyev.

Morariu does not have any position within FRR not in Romanian sport. The article only state that views were exchanged ;)

I think a common championship with Georgia could be feasible for us now due to direct flights and increasing offers of tourism in Georgia on Romanian market but with Russia no way.

In such projects, Russophobia is senseless. In the basketball league VTB plays a Polish club. Romanians will refuse a big project with good rivals, where will them pay transportation costs. Do not make me laugh.

I Think a "Black Sea" form of competition would be a great thing, the matches would all be highly passionate affairs as any games between Russia/ Georgia and Romania/ Georgia would be (Not sure on the rivallry between Romania and Russia but I think it is also passionate on both sides).

This is a good opportunity for rugby to do its magic and maybe bring some unity to the East of Europe.

But financially I do not see it happening.

It will never be a joint Pro league between Russia and Romania...and also cannot see it as Romania / Georgia either.
There is no interest in Romania first, distances + lack of infrastructure + seasonal difference between the countries makes it impractical ; if it would happen, would mean the death of the Romanian SuperLiga - FRR will not sign for it.

The way things stand now SuperLiga has 4 decent pro clubs (decent for this part of the world!) and another 4 that are just above the water.
Another 6-7 clubs in the second division act more as feeder clubs, because there isn't enough financial power to push for promotion.

...maybe a Georgian/ Russian pro league is more likely.

If SuperLiga will get some clever people (resourceful!) at the top they could transform it in a commercial product...unfortunately there is only a limited amount of time left to act...others surely are thinking on the same line!!
Until SuperLiga becomes self funded and profitable, it remains at risk...but it does have at least a blueprint.

Happy to see an expansion.

How will it work? Round-robin + semifinals + final (14+2+2 weeks)?
