Good. For the sake of the competition you don't want one or two teams constantly dominating the opposition year in and year out. The more even it is across the the board the better the outcome for the competition in general.

For sure. The fact nobody clinched two wins with bonus points says a lot about the feeling this league may be closer than recent ones.

Spanish second division rugby made the home page on the on line version of the most popular sport newspaper in Italy!
Of course, for a negative reason...

The title says "Big brawl in Spain, a player to the hospital"

Yes... It's being covered because one of the key Twitter accounts to follow Spanish rugby, @JuanCouselo, tweeted the video and the victim is one of our best players ever, César Sempere.

I imagine there will be a lengthy ban, but it would hypocrite from FER considering last week they didn't even judge another punch in the face in a Liga Heineken game...

No news. FER president is ill and meetings between him and ALNR managers were therefore postponed. They are holding a new assembly in mid-October and claim to have a few sponsors interested.

Unfortunately Marbella plays away this weekend and next week is off for almost all leagues because of Spanish Supercup played in Valladolid and national holiday on October 12. If I see there is any friendly or Sevens tournament I'll let you know, so far I just saw Malaga's home club hosts U18 and U16 matches next Saturday. They play in the University, reachable by Metro.

In any case you can watch both SilverStorm El Salvador v Sanitas Alcobendas and Valladolid derby this Sunday and next Sunday on FTA TV. Just tune in TDP (Teledeporte) at 12:30.

If you see only one game of Liga Heineken it must be this one, Sanitas Alcobendas v SilverStorm El Salvador

Next week (Sunday, 12:30 CEST) we've got Spanish Supercup in Valladolid, unfortunately at Pepe Rojo and not Zorrilla.

Test match against Namibia will be played in Madrid, like the one against Samoa, after nobody gave FER the fee they were asking for. Big failure and shortsighted policy. We should be sending the national team to places like Valencia, Sevilla, Burgos, Almería...

No league this weekend but there is a postponed game today, 12:30 CEST:

VRAC Quesos Entrepinares B v El Salvador Emerging. A/Academy/Reserve sides from both Valladolid teams, playing in Spanish second-tier. VRAC got promoted last season and under the advice of Mario Barandiarán (Argentina 2007) remains unbeaten this season. Many youngsters in both teams, although reinforced by guys used to play in Liga Heineken.

Lucas Guillaume was acquitted by FFR in a process regarding Rugby Europe bans after Belgium v Spain (other players weren't) and announces his intention to sue Rugby Europe:

Sanitas Alcobendas confirm they have signed Lucas Guillaume and say they offered Sébastien Rouet a contract too (although it seems he entered a Fédérale 2 club):

Both were fired by Narbonne due to their Rugby Europe bans.

Slightly off topic but... Could a team representing a region like Catalonia or Basque Country support a pro 14 team

Only if FC Barcelona decided to engage, which seems currently unlikely. Pro 14 came here, asked and nothing surfaced, so I wouldn't bet on it.

Surely running a rugby team for Barcelona would be no problem financially?

Considering their basketball team loses 25 M€ per season, no, it wouldn't be a problem. But their rugby team hasn't got the prestige other sections have.

2018 Spanish Supercup highlights and full game

SilverStorm El Salvador won it 22-24 in spite of a red card. More misery for VRAC, who in just a month of competition has seen two competitions slip away
