Santboiana is trying to launch a late bid to host Copa del Rey final in Logroño's Las Gaunas stadium (16,000 seats). Good because it is a proper neutral venue, but they haven't had enough time to make a complete proposal like the one Valladolid is presenting to the FER. Valladolid clubs and mayor met FER president a few days ago and agreed on all terms but one: Heineken sponsors FER but Zorrilla has Mahou (another beer brand) banners.

Is there 2nd tier rugby in Spain or you only have a main league?

There is a second tier (División de Honor B) made out of three pools of 12 teams each. And then regional leagues below that. It isn't rare to see better players in DHB than DH: many priorise their jobs, studies and families, simply playing in the club they have closer to home.

After Rio Olympics, some our 7s heroes have backed down and dedicated to new projects. It is the case of César Sempere and Matías Tudela, who now play for a second tier club from Valencia (Tatami) and are trying to promote even more the game in a city and a region that is working extremely well with youngsters (the core of our brilliant U20 WRT side came from CAU Valencia) in spite of not having a División de Honor representative team. For example Sempere has set up a rugby school with around 500 kids:

great stuff. I played one season for CAU in the Division the Honor in the early 2000s, it's a club with wonderful values.

Don't forget to greet Alvar Gimeno in the third half, he was formed there and I believe his family is deeply linked to the club.

His father Toni was the coach back then I believe and also the coach of ESP U19 which played
germany at the FIRA World Cup 1999 in Wales, that's why I ended up playing for CAU.

Exactly. And I'm not 100% sure, but I think two of his nephews are in the U20 national squad too, one of them even training with 7s senior team. An amazingly passionate family if that's the case.

Yes. Malié and Ascarat are still missing, but it's ages since we could maintain such a core group over a tournament.

The word in the street is FER will disclose tomorrow the host of Copa del Rey final and in Valladolid everybody believes it's gonna be Torrelavega. It would be a huge missed opportunity...

According to a post on Facebook by Liceo Francés rugby club, Iñaki Mateu is in the squad for U20 European Championships. On the other hand, Alvar Gimeno isn't there. Will they sacrifice U20 Euro ans send him to Hong Kong instead?

Seeing as they were very close to qualifying for the U20 world cup, it might be worth going for that. How are the Spanish U20s this year?

They looked amazingly good: beat a Fédérale 1 team in a 40-minute game some weeks ago, they play consistently in División de Honor teams, Jordi Jorba scored a try against Germany this weekend in REC... But I'm not so confident after watching how some key players like Gimeno will be missing the tournament (full list is still undisclosed, but still...). Anyway, Romania hosting it and having done a good preparation work, reaching the final would already be a decent result even if we don't repeat last year's feat.

Kenya Simbas hosted Spain for a test match in Nairobi in 2015 and beat them by a margin of 9. We were to be hosted in Spain for the return leg. I wonder what happened to that proposal.

The last time we played Spain in Nairobi, the fly half Bradley Linkleter really made work tough for our kenyan boys.

He kicked a cool 60m penalty. He is a pretty good kicker.

Here are some of the highlights from the media.

He now plays as a fullback for the national team. And I've got the impression he has lost a bit of his kicking skills...

Maybe he lost his kicking skills but he looks very dangerous with the ball in hand.Actually i think he was the most dangerous Spanish back.Very strong in contact area.

The name kinda sounds British. Is he a British expatriate? Same to German fly half Raynor Parkinson.

Hope they can bring in another big crowd without the derby factor and, of course, the other Valladoid club's fans. Would be a real statement that this is a sustainable crowd.

Spanish rugby is as close to a Men's XV World Cup comeback as to a civil war. This is what Jaime Nava told media yesterday after beating Belgium when, if I reckon well, he was asked about what he expected for next season:
"Today we must enjoy the moment. Tomorrow we will be greeted and given some pats on the back, but I fear on Monday we're going to be back to reality: we're not united. We've got a Spanish rugby where everybody looks after their own interests. And if we don't clear up our mess, this Spanish rugby momentum will quickly turn into the same issues as ever instead of having a common project, a clear one where we all push towards the same goal, looking to improve Spanish rugby as a whole. July will come and FER's General Assembly will meet to vote the same bullshit as every year. Sorry, maybe not bullshit, but topics that aren't really that important.

We carry a great momentum, let's do serious things. Clubs, players, unions, female players, union... Spanish Rugby Union must change too, must improve... But, hey, Spanish Rugby Union doesn't do everything wrong, it can't be either everybody's boxing sparring and the one receiving all the criticism from Spanish rugby. People must be close to the union, help and push at the same time. If not, after two or three playing phases, we will back to what Spanish Rugby has always been. And we won't change anything at all. Spanish rugby must unite NOW. We must united because if not, everything will quickly expire, it will be of no help that our team works well, like women, like sevens... All that success won't be of any help at all.

Sorry if I got angry, but really, let's wake up. Clubs, players, regional unions, FER as our main representative body... Let's carry all the same chariot."
