Hot off the press:-

Cayman 27 News has learned Trinidad & Tobago have dropped out of the 2018 Rugby Americas North Championships Regional Qualifiers. The trickle down effect leaves Cayman in a one-game playoff with Bermuda Saturday (9 June) in their opening game of the qualifying stage. With USA South ineligible to advance due to it’s developmental status for it’s national men’s team, Cayman Head Coach Garry Southway says the margin for error is thin.

<snip>

If Cayman wins Saturday, they will play the winner of Guyana and Mexico in what Southway says will be ‘early 2019’. The winner of that playoff advances to the newly formed 2019 Rugby Americas Challenge. With Cayman’s roster featuring 8 of 16 new players, Southway says he’s confident the team will get the job done.

Thanks. I was just wondering why there were some missing data in the RAN "standing" and "results" page and this is now known: T&Tobago unfortunately out. With Mexico and Guyana lifted up to the panamerican competition and T&Tobago retiring this RAN Championship has lost a big part of its meaning. Cayman v Bermuda, supposed to be a relegation duel, became a promotion duel.
Three levels appear to be too much for just nine (eight, now) nations; I suppose next year we will have just two levels of four/five teams each

The day after that article was posted, TTRFU shared events and news articles for their upcoming games in the championship. Has there been a mass miscommunication somewhere?

Cayman 20-19 Bermuda full-time.

And: Dominican Republic 12-46 Guadeloupe.

Bit of a shock considering Guadeloupe lost 5-7 at home to Curaçao, and Curaçao has lost 17-45 at home to the Dominican Republic.

All teams finish on 1 win each, Guadeloupe with +32 points difference, Dominican Republic -6, Curaçao -26.

Supposedly they renounced to the away game in Cayman but still want to play the incoming home match against Usa South.
Strangely the result of the game vs Bermuda (ended 26-24 or with a similar result) has been just partially erased from the standing: T&Tobago conserved the four points conquered but they have all the other data (matches played, won, lost, points scored, points conceded...) turned to zero

Confirmed: T&Tobago still in, but the away game versus Cayman has been cancelled

I don't know how this will affect the standing

12-46 according to the Dominican Republic Rugby Federation when I asked them on Facebook - they've changed it now - strange they would get the score wrong when they were obviously at the game!

Standing should be

T&Tobago 9
Usa South 6
Cayman 4
Bermuda 2

but considering that T&T renounced to the match in Cayman the standing could become

Cayman 9
T&Tobago 9 (or 5, if we hypothesize a four points penalization)
Usa South 6
Bermuda 2

with just one match left: Usa South v Cayman, on july 7th

Apparently if T&T didn't win then they would lose out on funding for the Cayman game. I guess we will see in the next few days if its happening.

I think you misread; it says that 8 to 10 teams come to Cuba to play against the locals per year, not that there are 8 to 10 local clubs

According to a tweeted article by TTRFU, if they can secure funding their game vs Cayman will happen by the end of July latest.

Due to the cancellation of the Cayman Islands versus Trinidad & Tobago match, by Trinidad & Tobago, scheduled for June 23rd, and the inability to re-schedule the match, the matches between Trinidad & Tobago and Bermuda and Trinidad & Tobago and USA South are now deemed not to form part of the 2018 RAN Senior Men’s 15’s Championship Division and hence have been removed from the Championship Division standings.

With just one match to play (Usa South v Cayman) the standing is
Usa South 7
Cayman 4
Bermuda 2

Usa South are not supposed to play in the Americas Challenge, so that spot in 2019 should be taken by Cayman (or Cayman will play a barrage with the bottom placed of the Americas Challenge 2018, I don't know). Cayman have just 56,000 inhabitants, less than San Marino and Liechtenstein summed together

That's a shame. They've been desperate to get funding for the game but it's just not been coming.

It seems that while removing Trinidad from the fixture lists they also removed Dominican republic v Guadeloupe

Today evening (morning on local time) El Salvador v Guatemala, as a warm-up match for Consur B

I don't know if it's a match with official criteria or if it's more like a meeting between two friend national teams

How have USA South got 7 points if they have effectively only played one match?

You seem to be perfectly right. Both me and RAN did a mistake letting 7 points to Usa South; they should have just 5.
I wrote to RAN facebook page; in a similar occasion, few weeks ago, they were kind to answer and to correct an other little mistake
