Given the amount of tournaments there are in the Series, all core teams know what to expect from one another, it´s not strange to see debutantes on one tournament shine and the next one not that much cause the other teams already have a profile on that given player.
I think part of the reason behind Ireland´s success as an invitational side, besides their own hunger, the fact that they are a talented team altogether plus the ability of the already mentioned players, was that "surprise factor".

I may choke in my own words, but IMPO Ireland won´t go that far next time having already impressed before.

One thing is for sure though, if they keep returning, broadening their pool of players, they will definitely be a team that can go far, as almost every other T1 country that participates in the Series.

It will however spoil the underdog magic that sevens has... as making a space for Ireland would limit places / opportunities for smaller nations I reckon.

Only Ireland have the same group again with games vs. Spain and Wales - two teams which have plenty of footage of Ireland and for whom Ireland were no surprise. Both are teams Ireland will go onto the pitch in both games knowing they can win them.

Top 8 is easily achievable again for them.

Ireland and Spain both defeated Australia.

Canada finished fourth.

Ireland collected more championship points in two tournaments than Russia in ten.

France, Wales, and Scotland just above the relegation zone. What's the odds of one of them going down next year? I've heard that Wales and Scotland don't like the costs, and England may be making cutbacks, I wonder if a GB team will be formed in a few years?

What really worries me is not seeing England in the Top 4. European qualifiers for the Olympics are going to be a massacre.

I think it makes a lot of sense from every perspective. 7s will never be the preferred sport in the Home Nations and they take away places for growth elsewhere.
What's the point of having different teams apart from "that's what we've always done".

They finished 5th, which is better than the 8th place in 2015/16 (but worse than the 2nd in 16/17). So there's hope.

Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Allegedly, 17 nations will take part in the African Youth Games Rugby 7s in Algiers in July, although many fewer in the women's tournament.

Les Pays attendus (17) : Algérie (H), Bénin (H), Burkina Faso (H), Burundi (H), Congo (H), République Démocratique du Congo (F/H), Cote d’Ivoire (F/H), Kenya (F/H), Madagascar (F/H), Ile Maurice (H), Maroc (F/H), Namibie (H), Sierra Leone (H), Afrique du Sud (H), Tunisie (F/H), Zambie (H), Zimbabwe (H).

We shall see how many turn up although it is the qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games so has some more incentive.

Extremely disappointing performance by Spain in Marcoussis. Lost all games, will play to avoid last place. Even if some are young or haven't played much Sevens this season, half of the squad members have World Series experience. Embarrassing.

Strongest German performance I've ever seen in the matches against Portugal and Italy. Extremely unlucky against England but they turned even that around.
Final against Ireland up next at 5pm MEST

yes

The russians were absent also in the official pre-tournament photo

All the Marcoussis tournament has been cursed by problems: streaming not working on day 1, amateur cameramen (they lost several tries because too slow to understand where the ball was gone) and now updating issues on the website. Today's scores and videos are still not uploaded, I'm searching the result of today's France-Italy but I can't find it

If I've understood, the best nations of Euro 7s apart Ire, Eng, Fra, Spa, Rus will go to the Hong Kong tournament qualifying to the world circuit 2019/20. Am I correct?
If so, how many nations will take a ticket to Hong Kong? Just one?
