Tahiti has withdrawn from the Pacific Mini Games at the last minute.

Instead of 2 groups of 4, and 1 of 3, the group stage will now be one big group of all 10 teams, with each team playing 5 matches, followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and final/3rd place.

Pretty sure 2 groups of 5 might have been a more logical way, but this way all teams get an extra game. Fiji and Samoa will be sending B teams, as their A teams are in Cape Town.

One most say, they made the most out of it - and they were as just, as can be with only the "B"-teams playing 4 matches on the same day. Will they still play quarter-finals?
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

And with the bronze match concluded for the Pacific Mini Games, Tonga prevails 24-19 over Solomon Islands, and will advance.

EDIT: On the topic of the current series, I'm not liking America's current broadcasting deal with ESPN3 at all. It is not a continual stream of matches (at a match, the stream ends very shortly after the ball gets kicked out in the second half), so I'd have to click on an individual stream for every single live match. They play ads over the halftime huddles, which plays over stats as well. Wish I'd lodge a complaint, or better yet find a different stream to get past the geoblock.

Some good images from the tournament in Vanuatu
http://www.van2017.com/rugby-7s-day-5/

There was a good crowd (my city's team in Eccellenza has sometime less spectators) and the players seem fit, also those of the tiniest archipelagos

Cote d'Iviore will play a game Vs Switzerland U18 (?) in a friendly

Netherlands and Scotland still out of the European men's sevens competitions. Are the Dutch planning their return?

There are also five nations which don't compete in REC XV: Monaco, Iceland, Belarus, Liechtenstein and San Marino.
The five nations not playing in the Euro Championship XV nor in the 7s one are all located in the south-east: Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Armenia, Azerbaijan.
It's a bit strange that Albania is not taking part in 7s: they've at least two clubs (both based in Tirana) and they should be hungry to debut as national team. If San Marino can, they should be able too. Maybe it's a money problem; or maybe they're not Rugby Europe member and they can't play. I don't know

Albania and Macedonia are not Rugby Europe members. And Armenia is not a member anymore.

Greece is suspended, right?

Azerbaijan, Netherlands and Scotland (and Greece) are the only missng Rugby Europe members in the series.

Not as far as I know. There are no Dutch male youth teams either. I think they were victims of the near bankruptcy the Dutch Union went through a couple of years ago. I'd like to think they could start resurrecting them now, but I haven't seen anything about it in the news.

I read on Twitter that Canada didn't train this week because their luggage was missing. Anyway it's not the first time they disappoint when invited to other continental boards tournaments.

Well, it's not Canada - it's their development team - so you can't really criticise them as if it's Canada's main team.

If they'd sent their A team, they probably would have won the tournament, but their aim is to field development players against international teams so they'll have some experience before they play for the main team.

You can also see that teams like England (When they play in the Grand Prix series) always finish 5th or 6th or something and lose to teams who are not on the World Series - this is what happens when you don't send your A team to events like this.

But I am criticising them for sending fragile development sides. France, South Africa, Argentina, sent better development teams. Exactly because their World Series teams are good I expected something much better than what we saw.

Argentina’s development squad has been repulsive. They deserved to lose every game this weekend. Colombia outplayed them on Saturday. Not even their coached showed up.

If they are not going to take it seriously, at least playing some WS players, they shouldn’t take part in the tournament. I only take comfort in the fact that Pichot and his UAR cronies had to sit through that shit in the stands.

Yep, true. Argentina sucked this tournament too. Argentina always plays South American tournaments with the development squad and almost always wins.

USA 31 x 26 Canada - extra time

Quarter finals
Chile 17 x 10 Germany
Uruguay 17 x 00 Argentina
