Oktoberfest 7s livestream on today and tomorrow, in Münich Germany, obviously. Has been set up as a private event, not the DRV, but obv good theoretical prep for the world series.

Live on German tv, looking very professional in general.

Unusual problems for Uganda http://www.africanews.com/2017/10/03/ug ... n-germany/

Their union pulled them out citing "financial" reasons. They did so without consulting the team management or players  More details there https://www.facebook.com/namibia7s/

 :( Yeah. A stupid thing to do in normal circumstances and even more so at this time :( Two of those players were vital to the team - one especially so ...

Ugandan team has been named though. https://www.facebook.com/UgandaRugby/ph ... =3&theater

The fact surprises me because I thought Uganda was a relatively wealthy nation, and that a person playing rugby should have no problems of food or extreme poverty. Is a possible life in clandestinity in Germany, far from parents and from rugby, preferable to a normal life in Uganda?

Morocco is playing simultaneously in Kampala (African 7s) and in Amman (Arab 7s), tomorrow and saturday. According to a post by the federation, the distinction is clear: the squad in Amman is composed by home soil players, that in Kampala by french-moroccan players.

Meanwhile Madagascar has finally reached a "ra" en plein in the team for the Afrasia 7s, an international U18 tournament to be played in the next two days in Mauritius
Image
Internet explanations of that "ra" are various, but the most reliable says that "ra" is just a generic prefix with no particular meaning

The Madagascan mobbing has reached a whole new level. Now everybody without a RA- isn't allowed to play any more in the national team.

How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

It is now on. https://www.facebook.com/kwesesports/vi ... 324089561/

Ghana's debut is marked with a 19-19 tie with Tunisia.

Morocco 19-24 Zambia
Zimbabwe 21-7 Mauritius
Senegal 24-12 Botswana
Uganda 33-0 Ghana
Tunisia 14-21 Zambia
Madagascar 40-10 Mauritius
Zimbabwe 21-7 Botswana
Uganda 35-0 Zambia
Tunisia 19-14 Morocco
Madagascar 24-7 Botswana
Zimbabwe 17-5 Senegal
Uganda 42-10 Morocco
Zambia 12-5 Ghana
Madagascar 26-0 Senegal
Botswana 14-14 Mauritius
Uganda 33-19 Tunisia
Morocco 26-10 Ghana
Madagascar 19-12 Zimbabwe
Senegal 24-7 Mauritius

Also, Safari Sevens is cancelled this year http://allafrica.com/stories/201710060460.html

Apparently the political uncertainty attached to Kenya's election and the subsequent decision of its Supreme Court meant that the new election date would be a mere week before Safari Sevens, not to mention the implications involving invited teams. Organizers tried finding an alternative date to no avail.

After the pools stage are there the semifinals? If so, the probable semis would be Uganda v Zimbabwe, Madagascar v Zambia.
And two of them would go to the World Cup!

Edit: no, they restart from quarterfinals
Uganda Vs Botswana at 11 am
Madagascar Vs Morocco at 11:22 am
Zimbabwe Vs Tunisia at 11:44 am
Zambia Vs Senegal at 12:06 pm

Uganda, Zambia and Madagascar never managed to qualify for the World Cup, so we will have at least one debutant nation

Oceania Rugby released today the draw of the november's Oceania 7s, World Cup qualifying
http://www.oceaniarugby.com/files/66726 ... s/draw.jpg

There are three (if I'm not wrong) not-full members nations: New Caledonia, Nauru and Tuvalu. I wonder if they may qualify for the 7s World Cup.
Nze, Aus, Fij, Sam are already qualified and the tournament awards two further World Cup spots, so a qualification by New Caledonia is not so impossible

Also Vanuatu is back, good. Tahiti out... probably they've spent all money in the XVs.... The only other missing World Rugby member is Niue again...

I'm not surprised about Niue they seem to have preferred to put resources into the other code, they did play and lose to Lebanon yesterday in league. Although the nationality rules are a little more loose in league.
