A Zimbabwe Select side called Zambezi Steelers played the BLue Bulls Challenge Cup side last weekend and were beaten 62-19. Not a bad game considering the Steelers were only together 3 days before the game. Tonderai Chavanga and former All Black Rodney So'oialo were guest players for the Steelers. Played before a crowd of about 2 500.

Gareth Evans (Hurricanes, NZ) is eligible for Zimbabwe through his mother. His brother Bryn is a capped All Black.

Old Georgians coming back strong after their loss to cross town rivals Harare Sports Club. The final Gold Cup position will be a tight contest this year for the first time. Old Hararians are also raising their hands but I think they will be still behind the top 2 at the end of the season.

If he had celtic parentage he would have gone years ago, actually he would have been tracked down by the unions firstly. But he has Zimbabwe parentage and the Zimbabwe union has no $$$$ so no need to jump ship.

@TRG There have been a few players who have put their hands up, some of them played for the Zambezi Steelers against the Bulls.

@Neptune Good question, but we won't know unless we ask.

@Scoob The ZRU just announced a huge million US dollar sponsorship package so the money is there now.

Good news. I think they can get more players to commit if they make RWC too.

Man, if they could get enough players of this level together they not only might earn qualification they might very well prove far more competitive in Pool B than what people expect.

He'd be a great grab for Zimbabwe but why would he want to play for a country that chased his family back to Australia?

Mugabe may be gone, but the ZANU thugs are still in power and have no interest in relinquishing it.

He's more than "eligible", he is born and bred Zimbabwean who moved to London at around 20 years old.

Much like Mike Williams i guess these guys don't want to lose EQP status as it can affect their ability to get contracts. for a RWC they might view it differently.

I think it's the coach that's ultimately going to tip a lot of players into whether they put their hand up. If it was some unknown coach I have doubts many would sacrifice the potential for being called up for the countries they are currently playing in, but because it's someone who was Springbok coach it might be a different story.

Tafadzwa Chitokwindo play in Germany for TV Pforzheim (and has so for at least 3 years).

They also have another Zimbabwean international with Manasah Sitah in their ranks
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.
