Some big names missing from Oaks' squad like Timisoara's back three Fercu and Sheenan, Vali Ursache (Oyonnax), Tarus (Sale Sharks) due to injury or club duty, it seems Howells wants to rotate players in this match. Tarus will come for Tonga and Ursache is expected to be back in REC 2018 after more than an year hiatus due to personal problems and now he asked some time off to focus on his club to avoid relegation.

Always wanted to see this new lad Adrian Motoc from Racing 92. If Muresan (23 years) from Timisoara was on the bench against Samoa, I would definitively give a shot to this prospect.

http://www.racing92.fr/en/Adrian_MOTOC-229-253.html

I know he was called up for a game against Russia last year but at only 20 years he didn't make it through the first 23.

Despite the loss of our captain and 3 key players from our pack, I still think we have a scrum advantage. Last year,we won against Canada and US without Macovei.

Surprisingly, the 3 hookers play(ed) for Baia Mare, the runner-up of Superliga. :D

Backrow is a bit green, I'd probably start with Poparlan - Muresan in second row, move Van Heerden in backrow with Burcea / Nistor; on bench Motoc for second row and Kuselo or Chirica for backrow.

I am especially happy to see Rupanu in, he was in good form for Timisoara and only 20 yo, same for Motoc who wasn't called up often until now. Neculau is an odd call up, although he had chances to Timisoara he wasn't eye catching but we saw Howells calling players unexpectedly, e.g. V. Popa who debuted last November vs Canada. Moyake Kuselo is a normal call up, he said for long he'd be available for Oaks, he was constantly good in Steaua's backrow and was excellent in Romania A - President XV match.

I think we have way to many absences to beat a team like Tonga. But i am happy to see Motoc or Rupanu with the national team. Motoc was probably the best junior player of his generation. I remember him playing at 8 for Steaua. He is also a smart guy, studying math in France. We have a very young side, Howells is a smart manager creating depth & bring young guns in national team environment.

He said repeatedly that main objective is WC qualification as Europe 1 and there is an issue we have only 2 games to he'll try to see as many players as possible. I suspect he wants a squad when every player can take the field at any time, this is the only way to achieve something in Japan in 2019. He plan long term, even if he won't probably continue after 2019, the rest of coaching team (Moffat/Cuttita) will continue and one of them will be head coach.

Still, I am a bit confused why some players aren't getting called up at all or again, despite being consistently good in SL and I am thinking to Vlad Popa who covered even fullback for Timisoara when needed, Florin Ionita from Steaua, Ailenei, captain of Baia Mare, best try scorer from SL from backrow, Denis Perju (Steaua), Boldor (Steaua), Doroftei (Steaua) etc.

We need a Romania A side to play more.

Romanian team to face Tonga:

1. Lazar (Castres)
2. Radoi (Timisoara Saracens)
3. Tarus (Sale Sharks)
4. van Heerden (Stiinta Baia Mare)
5. Poparlan (Timisara)
6. Chirica (Stiinta Baia Mare)
7. Nistor (Albi)
8. (C)Burcea (CSM Bucuresti)
9. Surugiu (Steaua Bucuresti)
10. Vlaicu (Steaua Bucuresti)
11. Dumitru (Steaua Bucuresti)
12. Fakaosilea (Stiinta Baia Mare)
13. Kinikinilau (CSM Bucuresti)
14. Tangimana (Timisoara Saracens)
15. Simionescu (Timisoara Saracens)

Subs:
16. Badiu (Timisoara Saracens)
17. Bardasu (Stiinta Baia Mare)
18. Gordas (Steaua Bucuresti)
19. Motoc (Racing 92)
20. Moyake (Steaua)
21. Bratu (Dinamo Bucuresti)
22. Umaga (Timisoara Saracens)
23. Lomani (Dinamo Bucuresti)

There are only 4 players playing abroad, the other 19 players come from Superliga. In the first XV, we have two players age of 20 such as Simionescu and Chirica. They all played this year for Romania U20. It surprises me the choice of Chirica as a starter but he already played 29 games for Baia Mare in the last two years.

3 players may earn their first cap: Moyake, Motoc (21 years) and Lomani.

Plenty of absences for the Oaks (Ursache brothers, captain Macovei, Antonescu, Lucaci,Shennan, Calafeteanu, Luke Samoa,Turashvili,Cojocaru,Gorcioaia,Fercu and more).Even like that i think we have a competitive team, great job by Howells in bringing new players & add depth to the squad.

That was unexpected victory. Wallachian ambush to Lelos. I hope we will ambush some T1 team like that in near future in Tbilisi, waiting for T1 teams after 2019 RWC

Lelos and Oaks are strongest teams in REC. Maybe joint Championship idea succeeds and after 2019 we hold Black Sea Leagu with 5-5 Clubs from both Countries.
To be fair Romanian championship is better than Georgian but still very weak compared to other European cups.

Even Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy are playing shared championship. REC must do the same. and that league will have better performance and higher finances.

someone must work on this

Georgia: Lelo Saracens, Locomotive Tbilisi, AIA Kutaisi, RC Batumi and Jiki Gori
Romania: Timisoara Saracens, Baia Mare, Dinamo Bucharesti, Steaua Bucharesti, Olimpia Bucharesti

What do you mean by ambush?

I wouldn't be adverse to such league and the inception of first direct flight between Bucharest and Tbilisi next year could be helpful, however not sure every Romanian team can afford such trips at least for now.

Moreover, seeing Batumi in Continental Shield, I think the proportion would be 5 Romanian clubs to 3 Georgian clubs at least for the beginning. Mind you, Timisoara who won vs Calvisano was defeated this season by Baia Mare, Steaua, CSM and Dinamo kept close of them and so far Batumi didn't showed much so probably they will need some sort of professionalization, at least partially, with players from France (Fed 1, 2).

How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Maybe he wants to explain/reinforce that ENC=6 Nations B :). But the guy should first be a regular at Baia Mare than trying to be a Oak. Good luck on him anyway!

Later edit: To avoid misunderstandings, is sort of info RW and generally journalists are trying to pull it off especially when there is about an odd place and Germany and Romania for average British rugby fan is are odd places. I spent 3 weeks all over Germany this summer and I hardly seen evidence of racism, the closest thing I stumbled upon was a Pegida stand. So I'd take with a pinch of salt all this articles.

Back on topic, he didn't played much to Baia Mare and isn't a starter, certainly Fakaosilea and Bucur get the nod from G. Sava at center. He did had his chances but so far he's not a starter although he's at the club from quite some time. I don't have anything against him but so far he have to prove himself.
