Again Balkans Cup: one match played yesterday

Ljubljana (Slo) v Celik (BiH) 57-15

1 RK Ljubljana 3 2 0 1 39 10
2 RK Nada 2 1 0 1 30 6
3 Dalmacija 2 1 0 1 -11 4
4 ZRS 2 1 0 1 -16 1
5 RK Čelik 1 0 0 1 -42 0

In the homologue league tournament, the Serbian clubs scored 326 pts and conceded no one during the first round.
The choices seem neat: Croatia opted for union, Serbia for league

2 Players' Representatives (1 man 1 woman) and 1 Referee's Representative for the Brazilian Rugby Union Council. The council has also 13 members.

How it in other countries. Are there Players' and Refs' Representives ?

Rugby is derailing?

http://www.fpr.pt/news-detail/10038959/
https://www.abola.pt/Nnh/Noticias/Ver/727954

Agronomia v Direito, Portuguese championship, has been played without the official referees (I haven't understood why) and suspended three minutes before the end due to repeated quarrels between players and between fans and also, I think to have read, due to a pitch invasion

In Italy a newspaper denounced "death menaces" from some Calvisano's drunk fans to a Rovigo fan; at least this is the testify of this last.

In Wales, news of some weeks ago, they plan to create no-alcohool sections on the stadiums, reporting that the drunk fans mock preferably the persons with physical handicaps...

Something is going rotten in the noble sport

I believe there has been a referees' strike in Portugal or at least menaces of it during the season. But my following of their local competition is limited, I hope suofficer can correct me if I'm wrong.

Top 6 Ocean Indien
Final ranking
1 Etang Salé (La Reunion)
2 COSFA (Madagascar)
3 FT Manjakaray (Madagascar)
4 St.Paul (La Reunion)
5 Highland Blues (Mauritius)
6 Mayotte

COSFA is the team of the armed forces, so they play in a mimetic jersey : )

RRC (Balkans Cup)
Two games (Dalmacija v Zagreb RS, Ljubljana v Zenica) have been awarded 20-0 to the hosting teams due to renounce of the visiting squads. Not good for a tournament involving just ten matches. Just 3 out of 5 games have been effectively played, other 5 matches are still to be played https://rrcrugby.com

Alpine Rugby Competition
In the Alpine Rugby Competition, former austrian national championship, the austrian teams are dominating the main competition, the Premiership. Three Wien clubs lead the chart ahead of Ljubljana, Graz and Innsbruck. The second level (Championship) is currently headed by Maribor, from Slovenia. The third level (Development) sees two austrian clubs and a czech one (Breclav) ex aequo http://www.rugby-austria.at/herren/arc-premiership/

So from what I know

There was a Portuguese referee strike. A young inexperienced ref put his hand up to look after the Agronomia x Direito game.

The game descended into a farce in bad conditions. Fights broke out across the game, not uncommon in rugby as we all know, but this seemed to have a particularly unpleasant element to it.

On the final whistle fights broke out among the crowd, several unpleasant brawls involving senior members in front of children and family.

Several social media accounts covered it live and then posted it around the web. It even got into the news for once.

The clubs and the FPR issued statements on it and as I understand, bans have been handed out and the final was suspended for a certain amount of time (15 days I think)

Since then Agro and Direito have announced they will do a joint training session together. I think there is still some issues to come . But how this will affect the national side could be crucial.

To be clear this is only what I have been told and what I have seen on Social Media and the news. I wasn't there.

Next sunday (may 27, 17.00 o'clock) there will be a friendly match in San Marino between San Marino national team and "I Dogi". I Dogi are a selection from Veneto region but they will play this match exclusively with young players (19/25 years old) from serie C1, the penultimate category of italian championships (Eccellenza, A, B, C1, C2)
I Dogi players for the match: http://www.crvenetorugby.it/wp-content/ ... Marino.pdf

I don't know if San Marino will award caps

Nada Split (Cro) won the Regional Rugby Championship (or Balkans Cup) ahead of Dalmacija, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Zenica.
The Spilt team conquered the trophy for the ninth time in eleven edition (one trophy went to Zenica in 2015, one to Ljubljana in 2016), but the tournament seems suffering; year by year the amount of competing teams slides down, this year there were just five clubs from three nations

Rugby league has really focussed on Serbia recently, it'd be nice to see WR devote some more resources there.

Out of interest, what does "focussed" mean?
We are talking about 14 clubs in a country of 7 million. From what we all know from rugby union in our countries, 10-20% might be defunct by now.

Found a nice map for Canalina ;-)

How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Thanks RugbyLiebe : )

News a bit related: this sunday, as I already wrote, there's a friendly San Marino v I Dogi (Ita). I think it's several years since the last San Marino XV appearance. Six years, maybe?
This match ideally closes a sort of triangular between San Marino, Dogi and Albania

2010: Albania-Dogi 14-69
2012: San Marino-Albania 7-34
2018: San Marino-Dogi

That 2012 match was perhaps the last for both Albania and San Marino (I don't remember very well) and it's a bit "sad" to read the those-days enthusiastic news saying "The Albania rugby national team is born!", while we see that their international activity has been zero in the while

The news is relatively related with what Blurdanski said because also in Albania league is trying (successfully, it seems) to convert to its rules the few existing clubs

Well, San Marino focused on 7s, probably due to the lack of players or good enough talent to fill in a XVs team.

Yes, in the italian championship they chose to play together with an italian club (Rimini in the two last season, maybe Cesena in the next one), so they really must have a shortage of players. It's quite normal, unfortunately, because the state of San Marino has just more than 30,000 inhabitants and there are not many towns of that dimension, in Italy, able to have a XV team.
My province has half a million of inhabitants and there are just two senior teams
