Re: Small news
Do you know which is the "world record" for penalty tries in a match?
My city's squad today scored four of them
Do you remember something similar?

Re: Small news
In Bulgaria there are just seven cities with a rugby club: five clubs in Sofia and one each in other six towns. Map from http://rugbybulgaria.com/

Of course, despite those four tries and a fifth try scored by a prop, they were able to lose the game: 35-38

Re: Small news
Some grossnesses in last year's world map by World Rugby. They put Belize and French Guyana under South America Rugby and, ok, this is understandable; but they also consider Lebanon, Palestine and Syria like part of Europe; Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan as part of Asia and half Indonesia as part of Oceania. And Caspian Sea as a new asian nation...

Re: Small news
I don't think it's from last year, but from 2011 or 2012. This is the one from 2016 World Rugby Report:

REC 2018 never happened. Please respect my beliefs
Re: Small news
Yes, sorry, you are right. There's still the IRB logo!
It's from 2014, I think. Or at least the article where I've found it was written in that year
PS: have you a readable link of that 2016 map?
Ok, found: https://www.worldrugby.org/development/player-numbers

Re: Small news
World Rugby data are always doubtful. From 2014 to 2016 (I haven't found fresher data) french rugby would have gained +76% players. Numbers are in thousands; I've considered the 2014 data as "total players"

Strange mentality. My sport is the best => government fund me. Or better: fund my son and his friends. Why not try to get two, three or better 7,8 clubs running. Then see what the government can do for you.
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Re: Small news
Azerbaijan - like Armenia - need a Caucasian rugby scene to exist. Their amateur national team plays in Europe but it is really far from the rest of the continent. Their answer is in Georgia and Southern Russia, but how are those relations? It is really odd to neighbour a country like Georgia and have almost zero rugby. Is it hard for amateur to cross to Georgia an play there?
They are failing in creating a regional scene. Why is what I would like to understand.

Re: Small news
AZR was playing in GEO lowest, so-called *First* Division in 20XX -- just ONE season
SHAME on me -- could NOT find in my BOOK | ARCHIVES -- exactly WHEN
They were coached by GEO legends -- firstly by late Guram Modebadze,
then by Malkhaz Tcheishvili (who was at the helm when GEO almost upset IRE at RWC 2007)

Re: Small news
More than good training they need matches. That is what I understand from the interview. Is it easy to travel by bus frequently from Azerbaijan to Georgia?

Re: Small news
Too easy + no need in visas
By rapid train more convenient -
arrive on match morning and leave in evening
@
But they never truly got off ground in new millenium
There were two teams at the very peak:
* one of natives coached by a Georgian
* another composed of ex-pats who were not happy losing to natives
Ex-pats had money but no dedication to development - just having good time
Natives strived for state funds and could not overcome ex-pats indifference
Very sad story, indeed
*PS* Emil Aliev - great guy and friend of Georgians but he is almost alone

Re: Small news
Just a very-not important dilemma: I've seen that the new base-concepts launched by World Rugby are "Passion, Solidarity, Integrity, Respect, Discipline". If you want to synthesized them, you get odd acronyms like SPIRD or DRIPS; so I wondered if we can build a RUGBY acronym remaining the most faithful to the original five concepts. I thought...
Respect
Unity (union ?, undivideness ?)
Group (grouping)
Balancement
Yntegriti (ehm, ok..)
Have you suggestions to improve this?

Balkans - Possible test match next week (Crna Gora = Montenegro)

Indian Ocean - Six clubs qualified for the Corsair Cup, a sort of Champions Cup for teams of the Indian Ocean: Highland Blues Curepipe Starlight (Mauritius), Selection départementale (Mayotte), COSFA and FTM (Madagascar), Saint Paul and Etang Salé (Reunion).
The six clubs will compete from march 10 to april 14 in the first edition of the cup, with the grand final day on april 28 at La Reunion. Apparently the fixtures mechanism is the infamous Continental Shield one: two pools of three, clubs in pool A match only the clubs in pool B and viceversa, with home & away fixtures

Re: Small news
It seems a match between Zenica and Montenegro, not a full test match
http://tntportal.ba/2018/02/ragbi-klub- ... crne-gore/
According to the same article the Regional Rugby Championship (aka Balkans Cup) is going ahead this year too with the 11th edition. First round on march 3, so few teams competing I suppose (usually the games started in autumn)
Re: Small news
Tuesday evening curiosity: the nation with the highest ranking (men's XV) between those which have never played in a World Cup (XV or 7s, men or women) is Belgium, currently 28th.
The nation with the lowest ranking between those which have played in at least one World Cup (XV or 7s, men or women) is China, currently 87th.
