Are the playoffs in January27th/ February 3rd 2018 or 2019?

If they are in 2018 it wouldn't really make a lot of sense to use the December rankings, apart from driving up costs for later travel arrangements and less promo time.

Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

2018. By 2019 all RWC pools must be set. And most of us will already be thinking about 2023...

As a Top 14 club captain, Capó Ortega he's certainly one of the best and most successful rugbiers in out history.
Any smart person would welcome him to a team.
As for his personal relations with the staff and other players, I have no idea.

He helped Uruguay to qualify in 2015 and was playing in the repechage. He missed out on the best part, the World Cup. I wouldn't call somebody doing that an opportunist.

He never plays for his country who now have the same number of matches than France. Maybe he prefers to play for Castres... This is the same shameful attitude than Zeno Kieft about we talked earlier.
This is exactly those kind of attitude that still make believe some nations have more rights than others. Disgrace.

Obviously that's wrong, as he did help Uruguay to qualify for the RWC 2015.

olivier wrote:Maybe he prefers to play for Castres...

I remember the talk about him in 2015 and maybe he wouldn't have gotten another contract if he played in RWC2015.

Here we do agree. But who is to blame? Certainly not the player fearing for his job and livelihood. And therefore misses out on the biggest sporting event. One does not simply miss out on a RWC because he didn't like to play there. That's naive.

It is really time for World Rugby to implement AND sanction if ignored that tier2&3 players are released for their national teams.
Especially Castres is notorious for this, like not realeasing Tussac (Germany) or Lazar (Romania) for REC games.

Exactly. If international window releases were properly enforced, we wouldn't argue about all this.

Uruguay will play a Houston Sabercats in January (H/T @Thisisamericanrugby)

The Houston Sabercats have the most ambitious pre-season schedule of any team in the competition taking on the likes of Seattle, the Vancouver Ravens, the Capital Selects, Chicago Lions, and NYAC. Now you can add the Uruguayan national team to that list. The Sabercats will play the Teros on January 20th. The match will be a warm-up for Uruguay before they take on Canada in World Cup qualifying in Vancouver on January 27th. Houston could be a good spot for these sort of matches in the future as Houston is a taking off point for flights to South America.
