Last countries without rugby
Re: Last countries without rugby
This is great Victorsra!
Maybe add some more asterisks though:
Maldives beach rugby: http://blog.maldivescomplete.com/2015/0 ... -manafaru/
Macedonia: someone apparently tried to create a rugby federation to seek membership of FIRA. There was a facebook page. Don't know what happened to the attempts though.
South Sudan: a promotional match did take place: http://www.voanews.com/a/south-sudan-rugby/1619297.html
Sudan: The Khartoum Nomads have a facebook page - desert rugby?
Maybe something further has happened in one or more of these countries??

Re: Last countries without rugby
I believe Kiribati also took part in the touch rugby tourny (both men's and womens) in the 2015 Pacific games, I believe also the Olympic Committee recognized rugby 7s as part of their Olympic program although I'm not aware of any organised national body.

Irak's newborn rugby association. Apparently there are still no teams, just some foreign-based player and the managers of the association
I tried to search also for Yemen rugby news, but the only items you may find on google refer to "Friends"; specifically the episode where Ross plays rugby and Chandler has to depart to Yemen... : )

Touch Rugby is a sport in it's own right.. You have the likes of Guernsey and Singapore ranked in the top 20 in the world. PNG is ranked 5 it shouldn't be part of this page same like RL is not under the WR umbrella despite they say otherwise WR doesn't have a ownership of the sport only governs a code.

World Rugby has its own Touch Rugby sanctioned form: http://laws.worldrugby.org/?domain=7&modified_form=1
It is different from the Touch of the Touch International Federation (FIT), that organizes the world championships and is close to RL: https://www.internationaltouch.org/
There are two different regulated Touch forms.

I
I respectfully disagree World Rugby may have decided to bring in the last few years it's own variation but is essentially the same sport, International Touch has always been the sanctioning body. World Rugby wants to muscle in. is not a different sport is the same. I stand by earlier comments.

A social touch rugby team has been set up in Timor-Leste called Dili Karau (meaning Dili Cows). So far as I know this is the only formal rugby that is played in the country, although there are a few expatriates who throw a ball around occasionally.

Re: Last countries without rugby
I think we are finding ourselves returning to one of the other threads on this site about media coverage. More media coverage would be so useful for everyone who are trying to find all things rugby union.
Give each nation the task on providing latest information on any active clubs or games (either touch/full contact). If a nation cant access the internet then they can from a different country....

Re: Last countries without rugby
2 big problems about media:
1 - Journalists are common people. If they don't know nothing about something they won't pay attention. In other words, media doesn't know about rugby in T2/T3 countries and T1 rugby media doesn't know about T2/T3 rugby;
2 - The press needs money more than ever with sponsor stopping or paying less for ads as they can have more return advertising directly on social media. Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/YouTube are draining money from traditional journalism. Therefore they won't waste time doing reports that don't have much previous interest. Sports media depends on Press Releases for minor sports/teams;

Which country would that be?

How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

I read it fast and I thought you (@Tomster7uk) talked about FORMING another country, then realized you meant to access the internet FROM another country...

However media can only boost something that exists, so to start with you need to make sure there´s someone passing a rugby ball for the media to cover it and reach the people that know little or nothing about Rugby. You can´t expect to form a club, yet alone a League only by showing how rugby is played in ie New Zealand.
Re: Last countries without rugby
Not the proper thread but I didn't want to open a new one.
There are 31 ranked countries that have still to debut in 2018. Thirteen of them (the ones in green) have already some fixed matches for this summer; some other like Venezuela, Peru and Costa Rica should play later in the year in the Mayor B or C. All the remaining fifteen could rest for the whole 2018

Re: Last countries without rugby
I have a question but i don't know what other thread to post it on, if anyone could help that'd be great.
How many teams have fully professional sides? How has this changed since RWC 2007? USA is an example of just becoming pro with the MLR and sides like Uruguay and hopefully Canada will be by 2023. To me this is a different perspective of how rugby is growing in tier 2 numbers as opposed to X number of people registered to play rugby.

Not sure on Guatemala...due to having the big volcanic eruption recently and quite a few killed... not heard if they have been badly disrupted...
Pretty sure Nicaragua wont be in any "C" type tournament due to the Riots , barricades blocking all main roads and police / govt backed street gangs killing women and children. and looting businesses....or any country that needs to travel through it by road..
