The groups haven’t been decided. The 12 teams are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, USA, Canada, South Africa, Kenia, Russia and Germany.

I would make all groups diverse, with two South American teams each.

In 2014 this tournament had a for fun open competition for clubs and combines. I played and it was awesome. I am not a big fan of heat or beach, but it is fun to play in the sand

No, São Paulo is not that hot. It is crossed by the Capricorn Line, 800m high, 70km from the sea. It seldom passes 35 ºC in the summer. The average is around 22º-25ºC. Would be pérfect if the city were greener and less polluted. But it is not. I really hate when it is more than 30 ºC.

Argentina won both Beach Rugby tournaments, men's and surprisingly women's.

And I noticed today that Sudamerica Rugby's website is off air being renewed.

Question - for the SA7s, the best SA team (excluding Argentina) will qualify for 3 stops on the 7s circuit next year?

The best team between Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia and Paraguay will qualify for Las Vegas and Vancouver. And the 2 best teams will qualify for the Hong Kong 7s (the world's 2nd division).

Okay cool thanks. Was this the case last year as well? I don’t recall Brazil or Chile making Vegas but maybe Uruguay did. Whatever the case, for countries whose 7s teams are essentially their 15s players this is some good development opportunities.

Uruguay was the South American team in 2018 Las Vegas and Vancouver tournaments.

Chile played both Las Vegas and Vancouver in 2017.

The sevens qualification haven't changed. That's good, or even generous.

I'm obviously biased but would love to see Colombia make it to Vegas. It seems that they place a greater emphasis on 7s than countries like Uruguay. No idea if they can make it but they've had a great year and I love seeing Jhon Arley Urrutia run, he was built for 7s.

Colombia will play Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay in the SA 6 Naciones starting May 11th. That would mean Chile and Brazil are in their group as well. The article says Colombia will play against Los Pumas but no way they’re playing against the main side of Argentina, that’d be a shellacking. It also says that Colombia intends to be part of the LSR in 2020, whether they mean there will be a team or that the players will be part of it I don’t know.

Oh dear, the Colombians are saying they will have a franchise in the South American League too.

The situation is simple: in the end of 2018 no one really knows anything about the 2020 South American League.

Yeah I really don’t think it’s the best idea for them to have a team in the league....put your best players in Uruguay, Chile or Paraguay but hold off on that league just yet.

Our national sevens teams just don't play many tournaments. The South American Sevens Series has just two rounds. This year, Brazil and Chile were invited to the Seven de la República, and Brazil refused to attend.

Interesting. I question what this can mean for the South American League. Pampas XV will certainly drain money and intereset from Argentina about our continental league.

Currie Cup is a 2 month competition, most that it would cost is housing for the players I imagine. I don’t think that most would get paid much to be there anyway.

It's would also be outside the window the LSR is proposed to operate.

Yeah, but since LSR is partially owned by the Unions this would definitely eat into any of the Argentine budget...if this thing even happens.

Having read this, probably 2 groups of 4, playing home and away, 6 matches then semis and final.
This would give the same season length as current.
