Argentina starts with one franchise. The UAR also promised the clubs that each foreign team could only poach four players from the local scene. If they want more Argentines, they have to bring them from Europe. Unfortunately, this first iteration won’t be competitive. I don’t understand the need to rush it.

Eugenio Astesiano took a big dump on the project. Two weeks ago he reported that the league was pushed for 2021 and it seems he can’t take an L. There are some valid concerns though > https://hablemosderugby.wordpress.com/2 ... e-caminar/

This has to work as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather them push it back to 2021 to be fully ready, but I guess 2020 could be used as something of a test season.

I think this first season will have 2 teams from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay each. The projects from Chile and Paraguay seem to be unready for 2020.

Brazil is totaly unready to have 2 teams. Not better than Chile. There is not a single city ready to have professional rugby.

Next week the 2019 South American Championship starts.

Brazil will visit Paraguay on May 11th and will host Uruguay XV on May 18th and Argentina XV on May 25th. It is not yet official but the match against Uruguay will probably be in either São Paulo or São José dos Campos.

The big news is that probably Brazil vs Argentina XV wil be in Belo Horizonte, Brazil's 3rd biggest metropolis (9 million people) and capital of Minas Gerais state. This will be the first time ever that a Brazilian rugby national team plays in "BH". If confirmed, Estádio Independência (capacity: 23.000 people), home of Atlético (one of Brazil's biggest soccer clubs) and América (BH's third club, the owner of the stadium), will be the venue:

José Liberatti stadium is not exactly in São Paulo. It is in Osasco, an important municipalty in the Greater São Paulo area, close to Barueri. The stadium has capacity for 12.000 people:

BTW, interesting information: the city of Rio de Janeiro has never hosted a Tupis (15s) match. Only Niterói (a city close to Rio). And Brasília (Brazil's capital) has also never hosted a rugby national team match.

That’s a beautiful stadium for rugby. Hope they can get good numbers and hype up Argentina as the opponent.

What does this mean by 4 local players? From the region?

Chile is also taking their tests outside of the capital. The country has several mid-sized stadiums perfect for rugby > https://www.chilerugby.org/condores-rec ... -de-junio/

8/6 vs. Romania in Valparaíso – Estadio Elias Figueroa (21.000 seats)
15/6 vs. Spain in Curicó – Estadio La Granja (8.278 seats)

Lemoine expects a solid overseas contingent in June > https://www.rugbychile.cl/2019/05/02/co ... o-lemoine/

I meant poaching players from our amateur clubs. For example, Peñarol can only sign four players directly from Argentine clubs. If they want more, they need to find them elsewhere. Apparently, there will be some sort of combine in Europe for Argentine players.

I see now, I read too quickly and missed the “foreign” team part.

That’s a good compromise but if there are 5 teams outside Argentina participating then that’s a big talent gap that they have to fill. Makes no sense to have 2 Brazilian teams if this is the case. They really need to use this as a matrix season to test out for future years.

Sorry if I ask always the same thing: is there a one only tv channel (or stream) for the whole tournament or every match could have a different tv/stream?

Every match can be a different broadcaster. Depends on each country.

No Brazilian refs... What a shame.

BTW, Henrique Platais, Brazil's number 1 ref is moving to USA (job in Atlanta). This means we are losing him. On the other hand, it would be awesome to see him in the MLR.

I think the stream depends on the host team. Last year, Paraguay streamed all of theirs on a local sports YouTube channel and Colombia played 1 game on Facebook live. Unfortunately, whenever I ask I never get a response about these things so we’ll have to wait until the day of.

No Brazilian TV is confirmed to show Tupis matches in the SA6N. We'll probably watch Paraguay-Brazil on the Paraguayan channel TigoSports on YouTube.

It's really frustrating how no one shares any info about this. Likely some shoddy stream.

Ok cool. And I'm assuming Argentina's matches will be on ESPN.

So then that means that Paraguay home games on Tigo's Youtube page, Chile on Rugbiers Facebook/Youtube, Argentina (possibly) ESPN. Then we have Colombia, Uruguay and Brazil to figure out. I believe that Colombia's games are now streamed on Win Sports which is a big Colombian sports network but I don't know of availability to watch the games outside of the country.

Ok that note too, Win Sports actually put out a pretty good overview of the rules in Spanish for newbies on their Instagram. Good for anyone that wants to share with friends.
