Fiji's new flag

Postby victorsra » Tue, 09 Feb 2016, 16:23

Like NZ, Fiji will vote a new flag in 2016: http://www.newfijiflag.com/

The flag designs chosen contain symbolism that is meaningful to all Fijians and reflects Fiji’s proud status as a modern and independent nation.

The 23 designs were selected after examining and reviewing the more than 2,000 that were received in the national flag competition.

Fijian citizens of all ages are encouraged to participate and use this website to provide their feedback by completing the survey and submitting their comments.

Fijians can also make their comments through text message, e-mail, social media, radio phone-in and the post.

A period of public consultation and feedback will end on 30 June. The results will be submitted to the Cabinet for consideration.

The Cabinet will then submit them to Parliament—the people’s elected representatives—to vote on the new national flag.

The whole process has been designed so that the new flag will be ready to be hoisted on the 45th anniversary of Fiji’s Independence—October the 10th, 2015.

So no new flag for the Olympics, right?

None of them look very inspired to me, there are a few motifs but none of them seems to shout "Fiji".

Out of those I'd go for 47 as I prefer simple lines. But anyway the Fijians can please themselves as it's not up to anyone else!

A combinaton of light blue, black and white would mean "more Fiji" to me.

Why they change their flag anyway? What's with this fashion in Pacific to change flags? Did NZ change it in the end?

It is nationalism. Their problem is with the Union Jack.

LOL than remove Union Jack and keep the rest. I dunno, after so many generations I found this as a non-issue really. After all they're part of Commonwealth, there a lot of common past, even the fundation of respective states is in close relation with Union Jack but hey, is they're business in the end.

I don't like any of those models.

I'd go for 47, 48 or 51. But then what the hell do I know about what Fijian's relate to?? What happened to 1-34?

I have to say I don't blame anyone wanting to remove the union jack from their flag

Yeah idk why they don't just do what NZ are doing and remove the Union Jack and keep the rest. Don't really like any of them. 38 would be alright if it had some different colours. I agree with victorsra, blue with black and white would look better. I hope these flags will look better in real life, maybe it will just take getting used to.

44 or 50...

the triangles are overused and pretty ugly tbf... not a big fan of huge sun either. Boats don't make sense, too much for a flag

44 would give fiji a unique flag maybe one of the coolest in the world, i like the waves. same for 50 except more minimalistic, It would make for better kits as well, more of a sunny peaceful island feel.
