NZ Rio squad http://www.allblacks.com/News/29404/new ... r-olympics

Shakira Baker (Waikato)
Kelly Brazier (Bay of Plenty)
Gayle Broughton (Taranaki)
Theresa Fitzpatrick (Auckland)
Sarah Goss (captain) (Manawatu)
Kayla McAlister (Auckland)
Huriana Manuel (Auckland)
Tyla Nathan-Wong (Auckland)
Terina Te Tamaki (Waikato)
Ruby Tui (Canterbury)

Portia Woodman (Counties Manukau)

Travelling reserves: Michaela Blyde (Taranaki), Shiray Tane (Hawke’s Bay)

Some big names missing ... Carla Hohepa, Honey Hireme and Selica Winiata are not going to Rio. Injury? Poor form? Or just the other players were better? Waldrom had left them out in his squad though - he only got one name wrong, that is, Whata Simpkins for Fitzpatrick http://www.allblacks.com/News/29400/wal ... pics-squad

Horan on the team that he selected http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/seve ... io-assault

Manawatu media on Winiata's exclusion http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standar ... evens-spot and http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standar ... n-manawatu

Oh! Interesting! What happened to the American player? Nathalie Marchino? I am glad that Colombia went for home grown players though.

No Magali Harvey. That is huge! I thought that she had improved on her basic skills, decision making and defence. Interesting call.

Dutch/Colombian Sam van Tol has also been left out after having been part of the squad in the build up. This may be a question of form though. Marchino would clearly have added a lot of class and experience to the squad.

Not surprising really. Wales and Scotland have much less 7s experience and nominated fewer players to the GB squad. They were always going to be under represented.

I think GB carries the largest management team - 9 officials ...

Do you know if the draw of the referees for every match is already known? Italy will be present al the Games just with a woman referee and I'd like to know her fixtures

France wins first ever Sevens match, beating Spain 24-7. Too many handling mistakes for us.

Decent first game, by no means an easy one for France but yes some of the passing from Spain wasn't good enough and put the team under pressure.
