No surprise - French navy are the strongest of their armed forces teams. A game against the British Army would be really interesting.

Nah, that was in 1944. :D
How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

In an Inter Services Cup between the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, the Air Force won 69-3*, helped no doubt by *I think* 4 players (mentioned in commentary) being in a Tyrrells Championship club.

*Other results (including the scoreboard at the ground) had the final conversion being missed (leaving it at 67-3), but commentators and me believed it had gone in - replay is up at 'The Forces Sports Show on YouTube.

First little steps for women rugby in Iraq: some women playing in a pause of the men's match Kurdistan v Baghdad, in Erbil.
The group of players was composed by women "from Erbil, Baghdad and foreign communities"

Women players in the World passed from 2.4 millions in 2017 to 2.7 millions in 2018, according to the annual World Rugby report.
It would be an awesome increase (+12% !), but this report is notorious for its frail reliability. Let's hope those numbers are correct!
Men players passed from 6.7 to 6.9 millions in the same frame of time

World Rugby will not release the detailed data behind these headline figures (despite repeated requests), so you are maybe correct to have a few doubts.

Time to time a new "oldest photo of a women rugby team" appears and I've lost the knowledge of which is really the oldest women rugby photo known. But this one of 1917, taken in Wales, repurposed by Cardiff Rugby Museum and re-repurposed by Twickenham Rugby Museum's twitter (where I've seen it), is very pretty

USA South Women won the whole thing last year, and it wasn't really close. I wonder if this means Mexico and Jamaica got better or if the lack of a consistent squad held South Women bacK? I hope it's the former honestly.

It seems Mexico won the title, 22-0 versus Jamaica.

Being this one the only women 10s tournament for national teams, as far as I know, we can say that Mexico is #1 in the World 10s ranking :)

7th Barbados 27 - 5 Curacao
Plate Final Trinidad & Tobago 0 - 5 Dominican Republic
3rd USA South 24 - 0 Saint Lucia
Cup Final Mexico 22 - 0 Jamaica

The decisive russian try in the European Beach Rugby Championship final versus Italy.
Score was 1-1 with just few seconds left and Italy was one player up (five versus four) but the #10 of Russia managed to go through our two players, for the delight of the Moscow's crow.

Final rank: GOLD Russia, SILVER Italy, BRONZE Spain, 4th Latvia, 5th Austria, 6th Croatia, 7th Georgia, 8th Belarus

DARE I ask, where the Brittons were?
Still healing mental scars from U18 defeats?

And why the girls were NOT dressed a-la beach volley?
What the crowd was looking for instead?

I've never heard about beach rugby in GB/Ireland. Which is a bit strange, because beach rugby seems to me more fit to Great Britain, where the sea is (I suppose) too cold to bath and you want something to do when you are at the beach, than to Italy, where the summer is hot and you should prefer to take a bath than to wrestle with sweaty men on the hot sand...
There are some good beach teams in France (mostly Marseille and Biarritz I think) but France never took part in the European Championship, so far always hosted by Moscow.

Between the games there were cheerleaders in swimsuit, so the crowd had anyway something to watch : )

There is no sand in most British beaches.

Regarding dresscode, let players dress the way they will be more performant.

Blanca Fernandez Ochoa, one of the best alpine ski World Cup athletes in the 90s and mother of Spain's national rugby team flanker Olivia, disappeared into thin air twelve days ago. Rumors say she has a frequent recurrence of mental depression. Police and volunteers are searching her with a giant operation, but as far as now with no results

In this image Blanca is on the shoulders of her daughter Olivia, in a photo from few months ago. Olivia scored a try during the final of the European Championship won in Madrid by Spain versus the Netherlands

I'd take issue with the lack of sand, but probably the greater problem is that - unlike Mediterranean beaches - UK beaches have this thing called "tides". What seems nice, flat sandy beach will be under several meters of water a couple of hours later.
