2021 Womens Rugby World Cup

Postby victorsra » Wed, 01 Nov 2017, 15:11

World Rugby is choosing the men's WC venue for 2023, but what about the womens WC in 2021? Any news about bids?

Apparently the bid cycle is brief, if you want it, next summer is when all this stuff goes down.

Probably the strongest bid would have been the one from France, but they won the hosting of the men's cup 2023 and now I've read that they will have also the JRWC next year. A women world cup in 2021 would be a bit too much also for a movement on the top of the wave like the french one, I suspect

The eternal optimist in me would like to see a mandatory hosting for women's Rugby World Cup so for 2027 if say as an example South Africa or the USA where to win it is mandatory to host the women's version in 2025.

France also had it in 2014. A bit soon, even for France.

It would only be hosted in England and New Zealand then

On another note I think it's time the WRWC expanded to 16 sides. Some people complain about thrashings but the current format actually excludes betetr teams to include Hong Kong. At the moment there is a gap between the top 3 or 4 and everybody else but the next 6-16 level could be more competitive and have larger interest if the likes of Scotland and Neatherlands joined in who are excluded for lower ranked teams.

Nice idea. The eternal pessimist in me thinks you might have to host it, but you don't have to host it well.
