Very young squad. Walsh will have a lot of depth for the incoming series.

I think Tim often sends an "up and coming" squad to this, so its no suprise - especially as New Zealand are not there.

That is true. I wonder that NZ does not also take the opportunity to do the same.

New Zealand don't seem to get out of bed for anything less than a World Series/Championship. I think (I haven't checked) they sent a junior team to this once when it was in Australia (and lost to Fiji). A couple of years ago it was even hosted in New Zealand and New Zealand did not enter.
Has to be said that their isolationism does not do them any harm, and it would be true to say that they quality of competition they could get within New Zealand will be far stronger than they would be faced with in this tournament.
OTOH it does not do much to help the development of the game in their region, but it has to be said that New Zealand are far from being alone among the major nations when it comes to failing to help the development of the region's rugby. When did England last send an "A" team to wave the flag in developing countries in Europe?

Canada ended up winning, and didn't have a single point scored on them... Probably should've sent a weaker side. Give some of the juniors a run out.

How to grow rugby worldwide?
Look at the world ranking in July. Teams ranked 1-10 have to play one team from 11-20 (they don't play in a regular competition) away the next year. 11-20 play 21-30 away and so on. Yes, it really is that simple.

Re: Womens 7's rugby - general news
A bit random and a bit late, but anyone know why Kazakhstan didn't send a team to the Asia sevens completed just recently? They did pretty well in the Olympic qualifiers by memory. Have they moved to Europe? Just wondering, thanks!

Total cock-up is the short answer. Their withdrawal letter from the Asian 15s was badly written and interpreted as a withdrawal from all ARU competitions in 2016. When they realised what had happened the Kazakhs tried to clarify and say that they only meant the 15s, but the ARU (perhaps still annoyed by their 15s withdrawal so close to the contest) refused to accept it and refused to put them back in the sevens.
As it is apparently the Kazakhs have now been suspended for six months from World Rugby - not sure why - which is why the recent 15s games v Hong Kong were unofficial.

Oh dear. If it wasn't so serious it would be laughable.
Cheers tho!

Kazakhstan must have been pardoned because they are competing in the Asia 7s U18 female championship. Their girls are in final, where they will meet (tomorrow?) Hong Kong
India finished surprisingly 3rd, losing just 0-5 with HK and defeating twice their cousin Sri Lanka, which finished 4th. At least other two teams were present in this Asia U18 7s championship: Uzbekistan and Arab Emirates

Yesterday Curitiba RC was crowned Brazilian Women's champions for the second time in a row, becoming also the first club in Brazil to win in the same year the top men's and women's national competititons.
The last round of the Brazilian Super Sevens (the Brazilian Womens Sevens Series) was played in São Paulo. Niterói won it, with Curitiba finishing third. Just enough to clinch the title. The series had 4 tournaments and in the 3rd tournament, played in Curitiba, the national team players were absent, trainng to go to Dubai. That tournament saw São José and Niterói having very poor performances, while Curitiba was that leg's champions.

Question: the Brazilian Rugby Union says Brazilian Super Sevens is the FIRST national womens sevens series in the world (as it was created in 2012).
Is it true?

Depends what they mean? Its not the first domestic sevens tournament or series, obviously, but I guess most of the rest are club tournaments whereas this i more regional representative teams?
Brazil "benefit" from having almost nothing but sevens domestically, and a big country which makes a sevens series both possible and essential. Other countries that have had regional tournaments normally have these as one-off events (China has had a regional tournament from probably before 2012, but maybe not a series) but most countries also have to fit fifteens into their calenday, this making less room for 7s.
So maybe they are right?
