Portugal and Germany seemed the strongest teams in day one of the Euro Trophy.
Surprising performance by Turkey, which defeated Switzerland and lost with a difference of just two tries against Germany and Czech Republic

Emily Henrich has been called up for 7s Residency out of Dartmouth. She's taking a year off from Dartmouth to achieve Olympic selection. She just received the MA Sorenson award as the best Collegiate Womens' Rugby player. First cap at 18, and she's only 19. Crazy good player.

England University 7s squad. A familiar surname on line two; maybe the daughter of someone? :)

That news leads me to discover that the Euro University 7s, to be played this weekend, was abandoned due to lack of inscriptions :( (the Euro 7s is played by single Universities, if I recall correctly, and not by national selects)

Moldova won the European Conference in Croatia, 26-12 against Denmark in the final.

I decided to check the videos of the matches, and I discovered at least 2 scores differed from what Rugby Europe put on their website, and I'm just wondering if any of the other previous scores for other tournaments are wrong.

11th Place Match: Slovakia 45-0 Slovenia (Website) but 52-0 on video and on Slovak Rugby Facebook.
9th Place Match: Luxembourg 12-7 Bulgaria (Website) but 10-7 on video (2 clearly missed conversions by Luxembourg)

In the men's tournament also, in the 11th place match: Latvia 15-5 Bosnia (Website) but 15-10 on video and on Latvian Rugby Facebook.

On June 29th and 30th Chile will host the Women's U18 South American Sevens. Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay will play it. The current champions Colombia are out.

In today's Lisbon 7s, Rugby Europe again got a score wrong, to add to the scores they got wrong last week (and more scores wrong today in the men's 7s too). In the 7th place match - Norway 14-5 Georgia should have been 12-5 (Norway missed the conversion at the end).

I've messaged them on Twitter and on Facebook to try to get them to check these wrong results (I count at least 7 or 8 this week and last - and that's just the videos I've checked). No replies yet, or corrections...

Euro 7s GP leg 1, day one schedule

- the best nine teams (except Wales and Scotland, so all bar one) go the Olympic Qualifier in Kazan
- after the second leg the best three teams (except the World Series core teams, id est -I think- Fra, Rus, Eng, Ire, Spa) go to the 2020 qualifying tournament for the World Series 2020/21

Kick off times changed in Marcoussis due to the heat wave that is boiling Western Europe.
The morning matches are anticipated by two hours (start at 10.30 instead than 12.30) while round 2 and round 3 have been moved toward the second part of the afternoon, avoiding the most hot hours after the noon

That's nice. We don't see the heatwave here, but I am happy to get up a couple of hours earlier. I think the Dutch will have their work cut out for them. We need to beat Belgium and not lose too badly from Wales (or equivalent). Otherwise it's a slugfest for relegation amongst the bottom four.

I feel for the Dutch. They were extremely competitive v Belgium and Wales, yet they will have to wait until tomorrow to clinch a spot at OQT.

All the scores from today. The only two "surprises" came from Spain, winner against Scotland and Italy; in all the other games the team first mentioned (the one with the better seeding) defeated the team second mentioned.
Italy was very disappointing: despite fielding a relatively expert team they showed few ideas, no confidence, no pace and they were outclassed in every match. The four teams forced to the 9th place semifinals are Wales, Netherlands, Italy and Ukraine.

Canalina, given it was a World Series team versus two non World Series teams I don't think our performance was a surprise. In fact I thought it a little disappointing compared to Biarritz a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, sure; it's just that formally Spain had a worse seed than Scotland and Italy, being arrived just 10th in the last Euro 7s. In all the other matches the better seed defeated the worse one

To note that, due to the Poland qualification to the quarterfinals and being perhaps Ukraine already save (they will host stage two of the Grand Prix, but I don't know if the rule "you host you are save" is still on), there are two Six Nations teams, Wales and Italy, seriously risking to be relegated

Quarterfinals are
Russia v Scotland
France v Poland
Ireland v England
Spain v Belgium

Russia v Scotland 45-0

I wonder what Russia could do with a strong XV project. If they found some good front liners they could be in rugby XV at least at the level of Ireland, Italy, Wales and Scotland, I tend to imagine

Yeah Ukraine MIGHT be safe, but only if they host a tourney in 2020. Which is uncertain
I watched all Poland games to date, they really play a schematic ball, no surprise whatsoever for the opponent. It's a little bit disappointing that they can't get closer to the World Series squads, results wise. They somehow still manage to have too many mistakes, although they've shown signs of competitiveness in every game

Final ranking in Marcoussis

1 Francia
2 Russia
3 Spagna
4 Irlanda
5 Inghilterra
6 Scozia
7 Polonia
8 Belgio
9 Italia
10 Galles
11 Olanda
12 Ucraina

The pools in Kazan for the olympic qualifier should be
A: France, Poland, Belgium, Moldova
B: Russia, England, Italy, Romania
C: Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany

Currently...
Scotland, Poland and Belgium would be admitted to the tournament qualifying to the World Series (Hong Kong 2020?)
Wales and Netherlands would be relegated (if Ukraine is save because host of a GP stage)
... but there's still an other tournament

Yes, Great Britain, you're right.

Italy will be in a rocked pool, with Russia and GB. I hope the format will involve quarterfinals because in the opposite case (directly semifinals) the Azzurre would have no chance to pass the first barrage

Is it just England in the qualifiers (representing GB) - i.e. no players from Wales or Scotland?

If you are referring to my post above, it was a mistake. Surely also Wales and Scotland are supposed to represent GB; if really some of their players will be picked up I don't know, but I suppose they will. Also due to "diplomatic" reasons

I hope conversions were not scheduled :)

Just seen a tweet by @SevenPhD that has the pools like that as well. However, @TotalRugby responded to his tweet that Netherlands and Belgium have pulled out for unknown reasons. Not sure how accurate it is.

50-0 is possible with 5 converted tries, and 3 unconverted.

25-0 is worrying... Madagascar scored 25 points twice, which means they missed all 10 conversion attempts.... Hmm...
