Kaz 12 - Cook Islands 5
I thought Cook Islands could have won it. Kaz literally hanged in there.

Haven't seen every game but what I have seen has been very entertaining. A few wipe-outs but also some close and hard fought games. Even weaker teams like T&T and Madagascar have got some consolation with tries scored, and hopefully learned a lot by playing unfamiliar opposition.

It's no piece of cake for Russia but they still dotted down three times to nil in the first half. They do look favourites atm.

They've really stepped it up in the second half, great stuff! It's pretty hard to say who will get through the 1/4s, was quite impressed by China. Haven't worked out the draw for the 1/4s Still feel the weather tomorrow could have an impact which would be a shame.

Ireland 12 - China 0
Ireland looking ominous for tomorrow, handled the home pressure very well. looking forward to tomorrow. sticking with my pick. Russia impressive the team to beat.
KAZ and Spain are undefeated but not sold on them. My eyes are square after watching all games.

Cup 1/4s
Russia v Argentina
Ireland v Tunisia
Kazakhstan v Samoa
Spain v China

Ireland v Tunisia
Kazakhstan v Samoa
Spain v China
Re: Womens Olympic 7s qualifiers
Russia seems the absolute favorite. Ireland and Spain, anyway, could be a tough task for them. Some little chance maybe for China too, while I think the other four teams have no possibilities

Cup Semis
Russia v Ireland
Spain v Kazakhstan
Didn't expect such a one sided result from Spain - China, not that it was an easy win, only the third Spanish try broke the Chinese.

Scoreline wasn't a true reflection of the game. Chinese girls defended really well all game. Very impressed with those ladies. Either Russia or Spain are going to win this I feel.

Re: Womens Olympic 7s qualifiers
I feel is a Russia v Spain final, however no one has taken it up to Spain physically all teams they played against have played a deep game. China were unlucky not to score.
I think Spain v Kaz is going to be a cracker. Kaz did a job on Samoa.
How will Ireland respond to losing their captain will be interesting.

Re: Womens Olympic 7s qualifiers
I never expected Mexico to qualify ( I did say dark horses) but I am finding it personally disappointing nothing to show for, I have followed them for 4 years and after all the funding and trips and tournaments they could have done better. a lot of naivety; lack of tactical onus with a 1 man carrier attack option not working they should have changed. Why attack through the middle when they had at times options out wide? Also some of the conditioning seemed lacking.

Same goes for the mens team the other week. Expected more. Mexico has all the potential in the world but needs to get the basics right first.

that is the key, they don't have enough qualified coaches and for a country that size need to get their coaching education moving.

No surprises, Russia and Spain in the final.
Re: Womens Olympic 7s qualifiers
Women rugby is still very pyramidal. I've seen few of this tournament but the feeling is that there's an enormous gap between many of the lower teams in Dublin and the top of the world

There is a big difference in fitness even between teams in the upper half, China looked fill of energy in the 5th place play-off while Argentina looked very tired.

Wow, Spain really controlled that game well and still looked full of running at the end!
