Olympics Test-Event - 2016 South American Championship
This weakend, March 5th and 6th, Rio de Janeiro will receive the Olympics Test-Event. The competition chosen for this is the 2016 South American Women's Championship, in which Brazil will attempt its 11th unbeaten title (Brazil has 10 South American titles, all of them without a single defeat... an amazing record).
The event's purpose is to test the new stadium in Deodoro and all the logistics. However, the stadium construction is delayed and what happened? The Rio 2016 commitee decided to host the competition with NO public and NO broadcast!!!! Ridiculously sad. At least the press will be allowed to enter. I will be there.
Brazil:
Amanda Boneti Ricci – Desterro
Beatriz Futuro Muhlbauer – Niterói
Bruna Pamela Lotufo – Band Saracens
Edna Santini – São José
Franciny Alves Amaral – Curitiba

Julia Albino Sardá – Desterro
Juliana Esteves Santos – Band Saracens

Re: Olympics Test-Event - 2016 South American Championship
This will be the 12th South American Women's Championship. Brazil hosted it 5 times (2 in Rio de Janeiro), with 2016 being the 6th time (the 3rd in Rio!). Argentina and Chile hosted it twice, while Uruguay and Venezuela hosted once.
The 2nd strongest team in the continent, Colombia, never played at home the competition!
In 2015, in Santa Fe (Argentina), Brazil hasn't played, because the South American Women's Championship was also de Olympic Qualy. Pretty strange to not allow the title holders to defend their title. Colombia won it and got their first title.

Apparently there is a Dutch player in the Colombian squad. I don't have a link as I read it in a magazine, and I can't remember her name so I am not being very helpful. But if you see a squad listing you could probably pick out her name.

About Brazil's record in South America:
- vs Venezuela, 10 matches, 10 Brazilian victories. Last time Venezuela scored a try against Brazil was in 2004!
- vs Uruguay, 9 matches, 8 Brazilian victories. Uruguay is the only one to have beaten Brazil, but it wasn't in the South American Championship, it was in the 2011 Valentin Martinez tournament, in Montevideo (7-5);
- vs Peru, 7 matches, 7 Brazilian victories, Peru NEVER scored a try;
- vs Colombia, 8 matches, 8 Brazilian victories. Colombia scored just 1 try, in 2012 (34-5);
- vs Argentina, 18 matches, 18 Brazilian victories. Closest score: Brazil 24-12 Argentina, in 2013, in Rio (I was there, breathtaking!)

It is somewhat debatable whether the 2011 Valentin Martinez counts - almost certainly not a full-strength Brazilian team
