Bad results for me tonight: I hoped Mexico scored a try, I cheered for Canada (there's the italian by origins Farella), for Australia (there's Emma Tonegato) and for USA (it's the home team) but all went in the opposite way

France couldn't challenge New Zealand in the final. It looks like Australia has lost ground since their annihilation of the field in Sydney, but the gap between New Zealand and the rest remains.

On our side, we couldn't ask for a better result even if on paper 5th place is a regression from 2013 tournament. Hats off to Pedro de Matías for turning around completely Spain in just 12 months and beyond Garcia, Pla and Ribera (retiring here) it's great to see youngsters are starting to perform. Teresa Bueso was outstanding, just a shame that her Uni commitments in USA prevent her from being more regularly in World Series.

I was impressed with Spain, they came to play and unlucky they were drawn against Australia in the Quarterfinal. That was good game against Ireland. At Half time I could have said this could go either way after Ireland hit back, but the Spanish held it together.

I was surprised at the Australian Bronze I had the USA as causing an upset after their performance against NZ I thought that the Semi-Final was the best match I have seen.

In terms of the minnows I was impressed with PNG they scored tries unlike China and Mexico. I am disappointed in Mexico they should have done better. Brazil in my opinion have gone backwards since the Olympics.

It seems it was a bad World Cup for one of the australian stars, Emma Tonegato. Two of my preferred tries of the event are the one by PNG's Garesa and the one, much more determinant, of french Ciofani in the semifinal overtime. In both the case at the base of the try there's a bad mistake by Tonegato on the tackling

This article was full of so much shit. https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2018/07/24/1 ... -equality#

Following the Men's QFs the stadium emptied. There were not 38,000 people watching the Ferns, perhaps 8k of which I was but one. It was a great final though.

That's what happens with remote journalists.

Speaking of which, perhaps it's time to add more mixed sevens tournaments.

Other than my proposed mixed team match format, an option could be to have 8-12 men's and women's teams in two separate stadiums (say London and Birmingham). They would play separate on Friday and Saturday, and combine only on Sunday at the largest stadium.
