Brazlian senior men's 15-a-side rugby overview http://www.portaldorugby.com.br/noticia ... D5JTwDVulI

This list show how many competition matches (friendlies not included) were played in each region of Brazil.

The São Paulo Rugby Union (FPR) accounts for 50% of all matches (% de jogos) and 50,6% of all clubs involved (% de clubes).

The Brazilian Rugby Union (CBRu) organized a bit less than 13%. All clubs listed in Super 13 and Taça Tupi lines played state competitions, there they don't count twice for the total numbers.

Rugby 15-a-side outside the 6 member states are is dying...

In the link you find also the number of matches each club played. Only 3 clubs fielded a 2nd XV in a competition....

The total number of clubs of the 6 states that played competitions is 79. The clubs and matches outside those states are counted apart.

Finaly the first Brazilian competition to have the 2020 fixtures: Campeonato Paulista Série A (São Paulo Championship- 1s division).

http://www.portaldorugby.com.br/noticia ... m-novidade

8 clubs playing 7 rounds with the best 4 playing again each other in the Gold Cup.

The bottom 4 play each other too in the Silver Cup. 10 matches for all clubs.

The Best 2 of the Gold Cup play the final. Worst club of the Silver Cup is relegated with the 2nd worst going to a Repechage.

São José, Jacareí (Vale do Paraíba clubs), Pasteur, Poli, Band Saracens and SPAC (from São Paulo City) stayed in top division. The 2 newly promoted clubs are Mackenzie (São Paulo City) and Tucanos(from São João da Boa Vista, small city 170 km from São Paulo City).

Mackenzie is a varsity team (the 2nd oldest varsity team in Brazil, stablished the 1960s) that became a club (like their rivals Poli). It is an American institution founded in the 1890s (there was rugby briefly there in the early days in fact). They introduced basketball in Brazil. Nicknamed "Popeyes".

Tornados Indaiatuba and Templários were relegated. However Tornados managed to stay in Super12 (Brazilian Championship). Odd situation as they play the national top division while playing the regional 2nd division. Tornados finished 7th in São Paulo in 2019 and decided to walk over in the repechage against Tucanos. They wanted relegation because they knlw they'll keep fighting against relegation in Super 12. So they want to play São Paulo's 2nd division to balance wins and losses. Interesting strategy that makes sense in the amateur world.

Worth to note the calendar changed for 2020 Brazilian club rugby. Until now there was a split between regional competitions in the first semestre and the national championship in the second semestre.

Now both structure will run together intercalated. São Paulo Championship will run from March to September while the Brazilian Championship (fixtures TBA) will run from April to October.

The reason is to offer less structured clubs an anual celendar with 1-2 matches/month (which is realy important in our reality) while better clubs can play 2-3 matches/month.

Even though it's 7s it is pretty crazy considering the competition is in one week. Really nice opportunity for them.

Band Saracens (São Paulo Saracens Bandeirantes) withdrew from Brazilian Super 12 and São Paulo Championship....

SPAC will be promoted to the Super 12. São Paulo Championship will have only 7 clubs in the top division, nobody promoted to replace them.

Well, not a good year for the Saracens family!

Any news as to why they withdrew?

By the way, great article regarding the need for Brazilian Rugby to have its own stadium.

Hey Osmanperalta.

O'Malleys! http://www.omalleysbar.net/ Not exactly Pinheiros, but very close. They always put rugby in the TV. However, Jaguares won't the shown on TV here. ESPN will show it on Watch ESPN (online) only. But if you talk to them maybe they can put the match in one TV for you, they connect them to online broadcast.

The realy grassroots rugby pub in São Paulo is located in Av. Morumbi, called Louie Louie. They will probably show the Jaguares there. https://www.louielouie.com.br/ If not, just talk to the owner. Big rugbyman.

For one more year CBRu closed 2019 in debt: http://ww2.brasilrugby.com.br/wp-conten ... .12_vf.pdf

And with our currency going bad, CBRu's 2020 budget is only 3,5 m dollars.

BTW, look the name of CVC in the list of money sources...

Tomorrow (Feb 11th) we will receive in our "Mesa Oval" podcast Jean Luc Jadoul, the new CEO of the Brazilian Rugby Union, to talk about Corinthians, Tupis, Yaras, the future.

Jadoul was born in Belgium but played for the Brazilian national team (scrum-half) in the 1980s. He was a director of the French-Brazilian club Pasteur Athlétique Club.

And how to better ilustrate how well Brazilian rugby goes, the only national sevens men's tournament will be played now, in the same weekend that Brazil is playing the World Rugby Sevens Challenger... and only 8 clubs wanted to play.

It is dead.

But every december SPAC organizes the "Lions 7s" in São Paulo, considered the traditional end-of-the-season event. The "Lions 7s" is independent and accepts clubs from other states, as well invitational sides, foreign teams, etc.

The club is called Brummers in reference to the german mercenary soldiers that fought for Brazil in the River Plate Wars (19th century) and founded Novo Hamburgo.

Rio Grande do Sul state has a huge German colony.

Well, just updating, none of these competitions kicked off due to the coronavirus. Brazil already passed 1.000 official cases, 11.000 suspected cases... don't be surpruse if Brazil enters the Top 5 soon...

Today São Paulo state (46 milion people) entered quarentene...
